So it's been three and a half months since I've had my accident, and it's going to be at least another month until I can physically ride and at least another six weeks after that until the doctor says it's ok for me to ride (not that I plan to take any notice, I'll happily turn up to my followup appointment in leathers Very Happy).

I didn't mind so much initially, I had other things to worry about - like getting better, and the debts I suddenly couldn't pay. But now I'm working from home, and I can actually walk - in a lurching, limping kinda way. So I'm much better and I've got little to think about on that front, but now all I can think about is riding.
It stops me from concentrating on my work - which is very bad because I work from home and most of my income is commission, on reading, or anything - I just can't think about anything else except riding.

It sounds slightly crazy but it's really starting to drive me mad. I can't stand it any longer. I'm guessing a few people here can relate...I mean, what the hell do you do under the circumstances? I don't even have anything else to look forward to in the meantime, I have no life because I can't get around. I used to read for escapism but now I prefer to daydream about riding.

I would, but I've got an external fixator in my lower leg. I can't wear trousers or boots.

I'm a bit odd as a 'biker' in that despite owning a load of bikes and spending quite a bit of time on bikes, I'm not actually /that/ into them compared to many - I enjoy doing fun things and bikes happen to be excellent value for money fun Smile.

So maybe I was less bothered by not being able to ride than some might be.
However, one of the things I started doing to alleviate the boredom was reading through threads on advrider - some amazing stories which inspired me to make some further plans about what I'm going to do around that area in the future.

Not sure how much you can get around, but can you work on bikes?
Now could be an ideal time to have a play at poking bikes if you can (at one point I could be seen balancing with one foot on my broken mx stand reaching over the bike trying to lift it up, while using my other hand to balance against a shelf with my broken leg sticking out - erm, probably best to avoid that situation, though Smile ).

Basically, find something that you can plan for in the future and set things in motion so stuff you're doing now while not on the bike means you can enjoy the riding more when you can get back on it.
Could always look for other hobbies/passtime you might enjoy - on that, I've got an indoor remote controlled which I got to occupy me while sat on the sofa - you're welcome to borrow it if you want Smile.

As for the rest, if getting around is a problem and there's no one to help, might be worth splashing out on a taxi occasionally?

I tried playing MotoGP 06 on my brother's 360, but I can't get on with it. It's like you can choose between no lean, half lean and full lean, and the same with the throttle - I just keep crashing every ten seconds. Embarassed
If there's a control setup that actually makes it somewhat resemble riding a real bike, I reckon I could get hooked on it though. Thumbs Up

Christ...what did you do? Leg get trapped between your bike and an SUV or something? Sad

What's the likely outcome and timeframe?

That is quite odd actually, given that you race and everything. Smile

I've actually been very inspired by the idea of touring recently, through reading similar websites. Just taking a few months off and disappearing around the world...hell yeah.
I definitely intend to take a trip round Europe this summer, although the thought of the Pyrenees etc. scares the life out of me at the moment. Come off there and it's one hell of a long way down...
People assure me that so long as the road surface is decent and the weather is good, you can pretty much lean the bike as far as you want and it will stick - but I'm not so sure about that.
The accident aside, I've had a hell of a load of random slides - like when we were coming back from Boxhill, the back end stepped out so far I thought I was going to crash on that mini-roundabout. No discernible reason at all. Shocked
One thing's for sure though, I'm not getting BT020s this time...Michelin Pilot Sports I'm looking at.

Very precarious. Very Happy
I've got access to my own bike to work on, but it's a wreck. There's nothing I could really do with it. My mechanic's going to take it away and strip it down in the near future so he can source all the necessary parts, and then the idea is I'll go down there and watch it being put back together and then ride it away.
The frame is twisted to some ridiculous angle, the back end is smashed in to the extent that my friend's R6 is actually longer, front fairing is smashed up, exhaust is like a crushed coke can...etc. etc.
Looking at about £600 for the parts, secondhand.

I do start it up now and again to rev the bollocks off it though, it makes me smile. Very Happy

Hey thanks, I appreciate that. Smile
I suppose I could busy myself planning a tour of Europe or something.

I guess my situation is kinda unique, really. My best friends live in Exeter now, and don't get the chance to come up here very often - I've seen them twice since the accident.
Other than that, my biker friends come to visit when they can but noone else has made much of an effort - partly because London is so huge I guess, but if they can't be bothered to visit me, I'm sure as hell not going to see them.

Damn, it took me a gargantuan effort just to get through the first one without falling asleep. You must have been really bored. Very Happy

I really hope it all gets sorted out for you sooner rather than later. Will you eventually regain normal use of the leg?
