Just a quick few questions on the Pinlock systems,
How do they work?
What are the benefits?
And if i was to buy a fog city would a normal one fit or would i have to buy one to go around the pin lock system?
Its for a KBC TK-8 lid i just got for £52.
Thanks for any replys.

PS, Also do you swear by Pinlock? any bad experiences with a Pinlock system?

For F city you need to buy the plain visor.
For dark tints you may not find the OEM will sell pinlocks due to legal stds and stuff. (Do not wish to be bad bois)

Advantage:
You can remove and thoroughly clean pin lock.
You can remove and store if you can't clean.
Keeps condensation to almost zero. 98%

Makes you look cool, sophisticated and successful (Well it said that on the packet).

Disadvantages:
Not many really
Reduces your field of view though only marginaly.
Sometimes a bugger to adjust but better than Fog City where if it sticks, you wear wot you stuck Embarassed

I've been using the pinlock inserts with my Shoei for around a year now. I've found them to be much better than any other anti-fog method I've tried, things like the foggy masks you have to get positioned just right (can be tricky with some helmets). You can buy either tinted pinlock inserts or pinlock kits to fix pins to non-pinlocked visors. The only problem I have found with them is that if you take the insert in and out fairly frequently, you can damage the silicon seal, which can lead to a little bit of mist build up between the visor and the insert (like condensation between panes of double glazing).

In the summer months I just wear a tinted visor, however I bought a dark tinted insert to go in my clear visor for times when you still have a chance of the visor fogging up but it's also sunny (cold, clear winter mornings for example). I've found that the tinted insert doesn't work too badly, but if I had to make a choice, then I'd go for a clear insert in a tinted visor (I've found that the sun can still get into your eyes around the edges of the insert).

May have found a second hand visor for my lid, all i need is the pinlock DIY kit. Is it hard to DIY the pinlock in or is it as easy as they make it out to be? Thanks alot for input much appreciated!

You can fit yourself quite easily (but not Lemon Squeezy Easy)
You must be absolutely sure you can find the centre and level position. But the kit comes with all the tech youi need.
2nd hand??? How 2nd hand is it? If it's yours and you have history on it's care and maintenance and it's not all wee scratches then fair enough.
For me I would just buy the pin lock visor. Cool

First pinlock I had came with the hat and was shyte. But the one in my aria is fine. I forget it is there now.

the visor i have on my lid doesnt fit propperly so am starting to have second thoughts, i need to fit some rubber around the front of the helmet to make the visor sit propperly, that or file the mounting plates to get it to sit propperly with the seal already on the lid. Any suggestions? i cant return it so i have to make it work.

Oooo.... I hope you are fitting a OEM visor. If aftermarket then I would not have a clue.
The visor is an important part of the protection system of a helmet. You can compromise integrity by modifying be warned. Confused

I'm talking about the original visor that came with the lid, its not sitting propperly at all, theres a gap at the top or bottom and i cant get it to seal at all so i will be getting alot of wind noise and water leaking in so a de-mister like a fog city or pinlock wont work when it gets full of water.
you can undo the plates and move them slightly but after undoing them and moving them for 30mins i just gave up as it still wouldnt sit.

My 60 million quid arai did the same. You just need to fanny about with it untill it seals or do the unthinkable...... Return to seller. Smile

The thing with DIY is you don't get a good finish everytime. The OEM has time to phaf with ver 01, ver 02, ver 03, etc, You get one go and have to eat results.

Percevere with the plates.

Thumbs Up

Thanks alot Walloper for all your help, i will play with the plates for a little longer then maybe make the screw holes larger god knows was only £52 so i'll make it work. Wink
Besides i like the paint on it looks good. just the visor letting the whole lid down. Tis a good lid.
