WR250
I've been in contact with the seller over the last few days.. I really like this bike, but cant find much history on it. I've asked a few friends and they tell me it cruises at 60mph (without any mods) and is a reliable 4stroke with mid 20's bhp.
The owner wants around £1600 for it.
Is it worth it? Any things i should look out for if i go view it?
Thanks ____________________ Dave

£1600 is too much for that IMO. You can get a later 03 onwards model with electric start and so on for around £2/2.2k . Or a 400/426 for £1600.
It looks in good condition but I think its worth more like £13 maybe £1400.
I only paid £1800 for a WR400, with supermoto set up and lots of spares and that was about 3 years ago!
I'm lookin to get a WR250F later this year as WR's are ace bikes... and I'll be after an 04 model with a budget of about £2k.. so I'd definetly try and haggle on that price. ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Oh and it won't cruise at 60 too easily!! and it isn't reliable, especailly cruising at 60 it's a small CC performance off road bike, they need a lot of maintenance and looking after and being 4 stroke, when they go bang, they cost a lot... the WR's are the more reliable of the racey off roaders though, but its by no means "reliable". don't let it put you off as such, just expect regular oil and filter changes, general maintenance and valve clearances etc. and expect an expensive repair bill if it goes bang. ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

mate of mine rides a wr250f. mainly road miles with the usual weekend blitz offroad..
quicker than my other mates drz400e but needs rings changing at around 4-5k or so. He used to have them changed at I think 2k miles and they had loads of life left.
good thing about these WR's is that they are essentially detuned YZ's. The WR's just have a wider ratio gearbox, smaller carb and a some other minor restrictions....... ____________________ 04' DT125RE (run-a-bout) // 89' DT125R (rebuilt + supermoto conversion)

So this could end up costing me alot of money?
I usually do about 600miles commuting a month. + the couple trips out and extra miles which will be another 250/300.. So about 900 miles a month.
Would this bike be a bit out of its depth? (most of my riding will be 60 mph roads)
Should i look at a different bike... I want something up to 2k and up to 5/6years old -
I dont want a 1992 XR250 that would have had 50 owners!
Any opinions ____________________ Dave

Basically, err, avoid, then.
It’s not designed for the use you’d be putting it through and is likely to end up much less reliable than that old XR you’re spurning.
Imagine get a 125cc GP bike set up for endurance use, then using it on the road for daily use – it’s not going to end well, really.
Have a look at a DRZ-400E (and of course CCM404 ), XR250 (if you don’t like the a big number on the V5, then buy a newer one ), XR400, KLR250 etc.
Or, you could get a cheap off roader and a cheap road bike, both of which would probably be more suited to the purposes. |

the drz would prob be the best for what you want. Its a little heavy for offroad compared to the WR but they are better for on the road. thing is the E version is more tuned for offroad so not many are road reg'd/indicators/lights etc but the S version is more for road but you have a metal tank which isnt good for offroading..
Decisions eh?
imo get a cheap commuting road bike (gs500 for like £800-1000 or even a vfr400 for like £1500 ) and then have a wr250f for fun. Its the best way.. Imagine dinging your wr250 and not being able to get to work... think about it ____________________ 04' DT125RE (run-a-bout) // 89' DT125R (rebuilt + supermoto conversion)
