Was surfing ebay when i came across a numberplate spray that is supposed to stop you from being caught by speedcameras. Im quite skeptable, as if it worked i would have heard of it by now.

Has anyone tried it before? It says it is legal in the ad, but im guessing that it means its legal in somewhere like north africa but illegal in the UK.

so whats the deal? Thumbs Up

it's legal..

just the same as it's legal* to piss on your number plate, which has the same effect as this spray.

*(assuming you're doing it in private of course)

they work to the naked eye in some cases, but it's VERY easy to extract the image from the photograph. If you HAVE used such a spray, and since the spray's sole purpose is to prevent the numberplate being seen under a flash, then it's quite likely you'll have "attempting to pervert the course of justice" thrown at you as well as the speeding fine or whatever

in a nutshell. they do not work.

Unfortunately they don't work when the image is transferred back to negative. Cool

WD40 all over the plate. Nice dusty road up and down several times and hey presto. Illegible number plate Wink

Spray is pants, have tried it and in certain angles it sort of works but that was with a digital camera with flash. Dont think I would fancy putting my licence to the test just to see if it really does work.

You can however, if you go to the right places, buy number plates with a reflective coating on the actual lettering, between the letters and the outer plastic. Again I dont know if this works but I do know a chap near me who sells them.

was in the bike show. £25 a tin. does 6 plates and stays on for 180 washes. when he took a photo of the plate, there was a hell of a reflection and you couldnt see the plate at all.

It's legal because it doesn't do anything.

The deal is it's just a waste of cash. Thumbs Down

As others have said.. you may not see the number with the naked eye, but it's very easy to extract it from a negative.

BUT how do they extract it? , if they have to photoshop it surely you can use the Bury council precedent where they photoshoped parking time signs to make people look guilty or used them to redraw lines under cars etc , Bury council had to give back 3 years worth of fines (and subsequently had to sell a painting as they were so out of pocket) ,

Also the Scottish finger prints are worthless case,

where the police finger print experts used photoshop to crop a photo to make the WPC look guilty , result she went down , she appealed won and finger prints are barely admissible as evidence in court.

I'd question anything that wasn't on 35mm and had no negatives, since if Stalin managed to edit people out of their photos they can do plenty much now (esp my fake bukkake photos).

There was a dedicated stand at the NEC selling this and it had a demonstration video showing how it worked.

I didn't take much notice of it but a lot of people appeared to be buying it... Confused

Mythbusters did a program on a load of speedingticket avoiding sprays / devices / methods
and none of them worked.

Not sure how controlled the program is with stuff like that as if it found one worked I couldnt see the police being too amused, but i wouldnt buy any.

Best way to avoid a speeding ticket, dont speed... Smile

Can't believe this has come up again!

Only a fool would buy a product like that.

Don't you think if it worked everyone would be using it? Allot of the new speed cameras are digital now and the old ones will soon be converted. Even if the spray worked to a certain extent (which they don't), all the police would have to do is look at the negative and go round the owner and do them for perverting the course of justice.

I imagine that would only work on a diesel though- seems quite a lot of effort to go to, fitting a diesel tank and all that, on a petrol. I suppose that would work though.

I have not used the spray, been flashed 4 times and not received a ticket!! So it might not be the spray that worked, but the camera that wasn't.
