Sorry about the quality of the pic, I was in a rush.

Just picked up this diesel 406, 6 months tax, 6 months test, it has 247 thousand miles but a full service history comes with it.

Apart from a small piece of plastic missing from the drivers wing mirror its mint, no rust anywhere, exhaust and brakes replaced in the last six months, and its showroom inside near enough.

Up at 500, mine for 350. shweeeet.

I have no idea.

Pugs are good reliable motors. The diesel 405 and 406's will go on for ever - I have a friend who's got 350,000 on one and it's still running fine and cranks up first time.

Had a 205 myself once and it was a tank.

Take good care of it Thumbs Up

Maybe he is working on one as a sort of 'project'.

You can get manuals for them too. 'Haynes Book of Hand Injuries'.

Any idea?
Would you mind awfully to ask your friend for us?

Maybe he wants to do a wacky experiment like they did in Top Gear.

Actually I was insinuating that it was a futuristic, over-styled bucket of some kind...but let's go for the option where I look smart and/or mysterious.

Why? It's got a full service history, so the cambelt could well have been done in the last 60,000miles, if not then yes it does need doing.

I just bought a Nissan Primera turbodiesel for a few hundred quid as a runabout and it has very limited service history (but not a quarter of a million miles) and drives nice, but no idea if cambelts been done so deliberating whether to hope it doesn't snap or fork out £70 and replace it, might just have a look at it first as the rest of the car has been well maintained so it might be recent. My fault for thinking it was like every other Primera built and had a camchain, course they went for a belt in the diesel models Rolling Eyes

The mileage it was last done should be written on a sticker on the side of the cam cover.

And due to the high compression in diesels, yes, there is a very large chance that a cambelt failure will fuck the engine.

He bought it off some East end Pikey. OF COURSE THE CAM BELT WAS CHANGED AT LAST FOOL SERVICE. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Shocked Laughing

There's no sticker on the cambelt cover, or tipex date/mileage like there usually is. Gonna whip the cover off when I get a chance have a look, see if anything inside or if the belt looks new, will have had at least one belt change as it's at 145K.

Walloper, it may have been sold by a pikey, but if the mileage is 250,000 I doubt it's been clocked so at least that's genuine (or he had his drill set the wrong way before he noticed). And if it has FSH then any of the dealers can be phoned in an attempt to ascertain if the belt has been replaced, most will probably have records, might even be a receipt for the parts in the paperwork.

I know the bloke who i bought it from, thats why I got it for 350 instead of 500, he is a 50 something wagon driver, all his cars are very well looked after, he lives in a nice part of town is very tidy and neat and lets nothing go uncleaned or maintained, I used to work with him, you should see his wagon he has dusters and cleaning stuff all over it in their particular places.

He is the sort of driver who should be at Eddie Stobart, when he parks his wagon up at night he spends 10 or 15 mins a day cleaning and polishing, he is like that with his cars as well. Certainly not a pikey.

I wouldn't have parted with money for a car with nearly quarter of a million miles other wise. Thumbs Up

Still chuffed, its a 1.9 Turbo diesel and its only 7 quid a month more to insure than my bag of shit astra I had. Mr. Green

Ocht away wi ye..... Very Happy

It would cost 60 quid to replace it so for 'insurance', replace it.....
That's what I would do or I would be unable to sleep at night for worrying about it. Wink
