What is that noise that Subarau's make?

I don't drive myself. I've always wondered, when these chaps are driving about in their Subarau's near me, what is that "pppffft" noise they keep making, sounds a bit like the air-brakes on a truck.

There does seem to be a competition going on round here to see who can dump the most times in 200 yards. I prefer the sound of my V8 personaly.

yep, its a dump valve. basically it 'dumps' the boost pressure from the turbo when you let off the throttle so that the turbo can spin up quicker when you floor it again.
my brother had a rover 220 turbo with one fitted, i found it funny at first but it soon started to get on my nerves...
