I was thinking (and it bloody hurt!! Very Happy ) that some point in the not to far future about doing a tour of Europe on the bike. Mainly because MCN done it and put it in last weeks edition and it looked fun. (Especially as they took a done up 999, R1, and GSXR1000, all specials) but they done it over New Years eve because the weather here was so shit, and I dont think I could go another year like this one!!!

I have convinced myself that it is a great idea and that I might as well do as much of Europe as I can if I do it.

What do you guys reckon?

Mike.

PS. I have also read in magazines about touring and what to take and do and honestly it sounds fun!!!

What more could you want: Perfect Weather (while everyone at home is freezing!), Perfect Roads with little or no Speed cameras and plod, Cheap beers, and cheap accomodation. and also 2 weeks (or more) of perfect motorbiking.

Almost Heaven!! Very Happy

Like I said before I cant do the same as this year and wait till March April to get out and give the bike a thrash.

Best to plan early on trips like these so everyone can get enough cash together. Not sure but I wouldve thought all ferry crossings would be pretty cheap.

Mike.

Hi

Yes the minimun ages do differ. You need to be 18 to ride anything bigger than a 125 in quite a few countries (France and Italy for example, I think)

Oh, and have fun with prioritie a droite

All the best

You should be able to get away with a 33bhp license shouldn't you?
I hope so as I was planning to hire a Ducati on the continent sometime in the near future! Cool

Yep, thats what I'm getting. People will tell you they are slow and unreliable (but actually they are as fast as a CBR400 and as reliable - services are expensive though)

I saw the review of the new 620 in PB and decided I liked it. New uns 2 expensive tho so an old 600 would be cool.

As for servicing - thats what your toolkits for!! (Oh, and Keith Wink )

Errr, no. Probably more common in Belgium than in France. It no longer applies on Belgian roundabouts, but they changed that over commune by commune, not all at once.

Getting a lift with someone used to prioritie a droite is a frightening experience. They will pull out of a T junction without glancing left at all. If they glance left and see someone the natural reaction would be to back off. This is treated as giving way, so the resulting accident would be the fault of the person pulling out. A bit scary

I spent 15 months working in Belgium, and had the Bandit there for 2 months (max continental cover in a year on that bike insurance policy). I quite liked it. The Belgians are generally very relaxed

All the best

Keith

We (a local bike club) are off to Italy for 2 weeks in September, that should be great! I think I posted about it a while back.
They all went to France in '02 and the pics were amazing.

Blinding!!

Im also really happy that I have posted a good idea for once.

As I said it will take a bit of preperation but I have a close mate who works for Thomas Cook and she can arrange really cheap accomodation and stuff. She got me a Pukka discount last year for my holiday to Cyprus.

Mike.

I've been riding around Europe for years now from France over as far as Greece, up as far as Finland and as far south as Rome (Italy).
My advice...just get on and do it...you will love it.

Spooky!

I have been thinking about this for a while, however I was somewhat disheartened by being told you have to be 21 to get the right insurance cover to drive on the continent.

I'd love to hear otherwise by someone in the know.
