Never properly done the whole dating thing, never had to before! Laughing

But this new girl is a bit older, (23) and is quiet old fashioned. Thing is, ive no idea where to take her.

I want to be different, but its only the first date.

She suggested ice skatting, but i dont want her laughin at me on the first date! Laughing

So where do you take your new girl/man on the first few dates?

Ice skating's a brilliant one even if you are shite at it. Gives you something to talk about later on and she'll think it's cute and sweet etc. DON'T lie and say you can do it Laughing

Actually don't listen to me, i just poke drunk girls at parties, never been on a date either...I do have lots of ideas of what it could be like though! Have a good 'un Razz

Ice skating sounds good, should be a laugh which is always a bonus when you first start seeing a girl.

I've got the same problem at the moment and could do with some ideas, we're supposed to be going out next saturday (Well she doesn't know it yet, I'm being all aloof and mysterious Laughing ) but I'm not sure where I should take her. She is 17 so a fair bit younger than me, taking her out for dinner may be a bit over the top? I think that would seem like I'm coming on a bit strong. Also you get ID'd by pretty much every pub in Reading bar the turks but I won't be taking her there, yet Twisted Evil

God, the youth of today!

You got to find out what she likes, dude.

First off, suggest taking her for a stroll in a (nice!) park, and just chat.
(yes, just like you do on a computer, only you don't get a chance to do OMG!!"!11 LOLZ!!!11! this sort of thing)

Possibly modern girls might find this a little ODD, but if you eventually find one who actually thinks its a nice idea, you might like to try these suggestions:

Stop and buy ice creams or coffee and buns in the park cafeteria, if you are feeling worn out from so much physical exertion.

The trick is that whilst you are strolling: you TALK to her and find out what she likes. When I say talk, I mean "hold a conversation", which means the polite back and forth exchange of opinions, ideas, interests and and other topical matters.

Then you have a chance to get more idea of where you might be able to suggest on the next "normal" sort of date.

Does she like museums or art galleries?
If she expresses an interest in photography, be resourceful and see what art galleries are showing photographic stuff.

If she expresses an interest in artists (and you have no clue what she is talking about - i.e., if she uses words like "Modigliani", "Klimt", "Mondrian" and "Rodin" - these are not a foreign language, but they are words you may not be familiar with) ... suggest a museum. She'll take it from there. You are allowed to express complete ignorance in such subjects, although to keep her from running a mile at your plebbishness, you may have to pretend to be interested in her "teaching" you. Eventually you may profess to believe it better if you have your interests (PS3, observing turd behaviour and consistency, marking farts for lethality, and motorcycling) and she has hers (arty "bird" things) ... sometimes its better for couples to have differing interests)

What sort of films does she like?
* If she suggests you go to see a film YOU like (but she doesn't) then she probably doesn't mind if you grope her (provided you're not actually engrossed in the film, yourself)
* If she suggests horror films, then she probably doesn't want you to grope her, but she does want you to be accessible for when the scary bits happen.
* If she suggests nauseating romantic comedies, don't grope her, it will just make her cross.

Take her to a concert (depending on whether you both like the same music and whether you really want to spend 2 hours not speaking due to the loudness).

Maybe she likes classical music or ballet ... its probably not going to be fun for you if she does, but men should learn to suffer these things Mr. Green

Or if she's just not giving out any clues, just take her behind a bush and see if you can talk her into letting you do her up the garry (saves on population control, but don't forget to use a condom, apparently Durex are better than Mates).
Cool Cool

Probably not immediately.

If you're not frit of them, pretend to be interested in having a look at it and get her to take you down to see it.

Maybe suggest a picnic lunch.

Easy enough to buy french bread, pate or cheese (don't be afraid to ask what she likes!), a bag of mixed salad, wine, and fruit salad from Marks and Spencers, and then chat to her whilst enjoying lunch on a horse-blanket (she's bound to like that, and you may get away with an oldfashioned fumble in the sunshine) ... remember to buy carrot sticks for the horse.

Saucy remarks regarding jodphurs and riding crops might then be able to be introduced into the conversation.

Mr. Green

I think lunch dates are ideal for the first one. Gives you a chance to talk and to see what you have in common, before doing the pub/club thang in the evening. Fun fairs are always good, just not at this time of year. Bowling's ok if there's a small group of you, but that's not really a "date" as such. I wouldn't do the cinema until a few dates in, it might be something you want to watch that she doesn't or vice versa - you don't want to be kicked to the kerb because of a crap film.

Go to a massage parlour, they won't phone you up and say "oi, nobber, I'm pregant".

Plus, they're like a girlfriend you can shag and then put away when you're bored, like your scaletrix except they suck you off, genius.

He can't afford to shop at M&S for the next 18 years... As Tesco extra value french bread, pate or cheese, mixed salad, wine and fruit salad probably are not the way to a lady's heart, I think, January or not, he should forget the picnic idea.

There's got to be a local landmark kind of thing that locals don't go and visit. I've known London first dates to involve visits to tourist destinations, such as a trip to the Tower, St Pauls, the Clink or the London Dungeon, and would love something like that myself, as if you're local, you don't really do touristy things.

But yes, as Jon suggested, get some condoms beforehand. Ask for extra large, if you think the standard ones are too small for you to use effectively. Wink
