Something is annoying me about this movie;

Was it actual super natural powers or an illusion? There's noway they could of made a full 3d hologram in the 1900's, not to mention the fact that it interacts with it's surroundings.
The stuck floating sword, my only theory for this is that Eisenheim used some sort of psychological illusion which is why they couldn't remove the sword, but how did it balance in thin air?
Then the Orange tree, even with todays technology you probably wouldn't be able to achieve the same results by using a mechanical engine?

Are these just huge plot holes meant to be a magic trick or did he have an actual power?

Good film, enjoyed it although the plot is quite disturbing.

I imagine that as it is a film they sort of made things up.

I read a story once about a magician who used a sheet of plate glass at a 45 degree angle to the audience. He used arc lamps to light a phosphorescent material before the show, then when the lights were lowered, the phosphorescent material began to glow.

The glow was reflected on the sheet of glass (which could not be seen in the dark) and it looked like a ghost.

I would guess that something similar could be done with a projected image.

Interesting method, the thing about the film maybe like Ariel said was they just did it because they could. That method wouldn't of worked for the ghosts that walked through the audience.

I can't seem to find any decent info on the tricks in the film either.
