restrictor kit for zx6r 1997 F3

im after a kit for a zx6r 1997 f3 model, its for my wifes bike and she really wants to be restricted, still going to be loads more power than a cg.

best place to buy?
or does anyone know of anyone selling.

want to do this as cheaply as possible really.

FI international do them ,but you'll get rapped on price(£200-300). Some places can make you up a throttle stop mod and do a dyno run for a fraction of the price.

£20 from Titz is a huge saving, so I'd snap them up . Cost me £176 for the GPZ so it would be around the £200 mark for a 4cylinder bike I expect.

ok, heres the latest,was talking to a bike guy near me.

it doesnt matter if i buy the restrictor for £1, without the certificate,etc they are useless. yes i can pay to have them fitted into the bike and the bike will be 33bhp, but legally the bike isnt registered as 33bhp and so can cause problems with insurance.

next is the issue of needing a completed certificate to show the insurance company before they will issue insurance, again this cant be dont on a set of bought restrictors.

finally if titz hasnt got the certificate,blank , then i cannot use them in a legal capacity, this seemed strange to me so i asked if i could fit them and then have it rolling roaded, he answer that he doesnt think so.

i am kind of stuck on this now and thinking that perhaps i need to go the way round of getting a professional kit and getting it fitted at an arse lubeing £160.

get them fitted, and stick it on a dyno to show that it is your bike with a 33bhp readout. My certificate states that it's for my bike's registration. But proof can be in any form. F1 international would like one to think that it's the ONLY way to do it.

Even still, a dyno run will cost 30 odd quid and that's more than sufficient proof.

At least, you can let the dyno operator shove on your chassis no or reg number and i'm pretty certain, producing that will show police that it IS restricted.

I'm surprised insureres even ask! I was with carole nash and didn't say a word at all. Most places don't ask unless they say err nerr you have to be 21 ... by which point i tell them to piss off because they are chatting breeze after me spending time to explain and clarify it to them.

If the insureres are being gay, then switch! How old are you anyway? I was 19 when i bought my ZX6R a year ago and didn't have any problems whatsoever.

Also how common is the police stopping you taking your bike off you and taking it on a dyno run how common is that.

I've sent the restrictors via post anyway . To be honest, after riding 5 minutes on the bike and figuring out that it is a eunuch, you soon decide to take the risk and ride unrestricted. Got the bike home, off went the tank and hello 100bhp! . My ZXR250 was supposedly restricted so the seller gave me the option to have the bike without restrictors. This meant that i have had the so called "kawasaki curse" - i have since had 2 red kawasaki ninjas that should have been 33bhp'd but NOT, i have subsequently lowsided both of them, and THEN i have decided to respray them black - it's like dejavu but 2 years apart!

I've said this many a time. It doesn't matter how you do it, if the bike can't make more than 33bhp at the time of you being seen riding it, then there is no problem.

Ie if PC plod confiscates bike, 'cause you say it's restricted, turns out it is, but you have no proof, he dyno's it, you get a lovely new set of tyres at the police force's expense for the damages, and an apology. This can be homemade washers, a throttle stop, or anything that restricts it to make <33bhp.

If you spend the money and get an FI kit, you could still have the bike seized and dyno'd, same scenario applies, just you didn't spend £150 more on a commercial scam.

The only reason that you may require a certificate is for insurance purposes, but tbh, Carol Nash, Bennetts, MCE, Norwich Union, EBike, none of them ask for one, and you will most probably get insurance through one of these anyway.

If you want to be legal, a certificate is the way to go, but if you want to be legal and save £150 and learn a bit about common sense and the law, get some washers made up, or buy second hand like you have.

ive done that, took advice from here and general mates and they told me same stuff.. if shes restricted its very unlikely shell get pulled and if she does the police will probably take her word for it as shes a chick on a new licence.

happened to a friend of ours who had removed the restrictors, she got stopped (one of these stop all bikers days)but said she was restricted, the coppers were all smiles and let her off, no docs required and nothing else.

I have a 33bhp restricted license and ride a 97 ZX6R Ninja.

I done loads of research on the net about restrictions and the law about and what i found was,
A restriction certificate is not a legal document like a mot cert or a V5 and is pointless, who's to say you haven't taken your restrictor out. If you get caught doing over 120 say, and you pull out your restriction cert the copper is gona laugh in your face.
BUT some insurance companies ask for a copy of it when you sign up. I think this is more a declaration of you saying "yes this bike is restricted" and if you crash and it aint then your on your ass.

Also there is nowhere in the 33bhp law that says how you have to limit your engine to 33bhp. It just says your bike must not produce more than that.

For my bike which is carbed, the restrictor is 4 blanking plates, no special gizmo from nasa, just four steel plates. Which cost £150! The only place that i could find that makes them is in holland (i think!) called alpha technik, who's UK supplier is F1 International. This is the only place i could find and know of that sell these restriction kits.

After looking at all this i decided not to restrict mine. I refuse to £150 for four washers . If i get stopped, touch wood i haven't yet. But if i do, ill tell the copper i believe it to be restricted as far as i know IF HE ASKS! Otherwise i ride with a wise head, i know when i can wind it on and when i need to be sensible.

I'm amazed that nobody has bothered putting a throttle stop in the twist-grip or at the other end of the cable. Surely it would be the cheapest and easiest way to restrict a bike!
