I recently changed from Rockoil chain wax to Castrol chain wax. Now the Rock oil stuff was good but didn't half make a mess of the chain (crud wise). Then there's the Castrol shit, not only does it fling all over the show in a huuuuuge way that it took hours to clean it all off the bike, but the chain has stretched so much since using it that it is untrue. Also since using the Castrol stuff I can always feel knocks in the chain and it still constantly seems rusty even when using it after every ride.

So can anyone reccomend one that doesn't fling but does a good job of taking care of the chain?

I just use normal car engine oil and my chain has lasted a good 20K miles. I also hear chainsaw oil is good stuff too.

I know Craig23 uses chainsaw oil so I took the tip and use chainsaw oil too.
It's about £3 for 500ml.

Profi dry lube seemed pretty decent during the nice weather towards the end of summer last year, but didn't seem to want to stay on the chain for any length of time once it started raining.

Yoshimoto gold wax seems to be the best wet lube I've tried so far, with it doing a good job on my current chain so far, fling isn't an issue like some of the white lubes I've used before and it even looks decent to boot Thumbs Up

Chainsaw oil is very good, it's sticky but runny enough to get inbetween all the links nicely, makes one hell of a mess of the back of the bike though.

Castrol chain wax really is crap, it just turns into this paste that attracts grit and crap and doesn't seem to have any lubrication properties whatsoever. I use Heine Gericke spray lube at the moment, it's a grease/oil rather than a wax but is gooey rather than runny and doesn't seem to flingoff much but keeps chain nice and loose, and doesn't cost a fortune.

I use vegetable oil. That works fine and is biodegradable too.

Dri lube is least messy. Side plates can get a bit rusty though.
Veg oil is not really best as you cannot control oxidation and it's load carrying stability is not great for the extremes a motorcycle chain can be subjected to.
But cheap... Unless you use that posh Italian Olive that comes in those dead fancy bottles.

Wurth everytime. I used Castrol wax stuff for a while too and didn't looked like someone had squirted toothpaste all over it. Laughing

you do every 20,000 miles on the NTV you undo the bolt on the shaft and change the oil, same with some older BMWs which need this at 8000 miles.

Fit one of them and get a gold DID chain, job sorted. You probably will only adjust it twice in 20,000 miles.
