Sorry I didn't get a chance to post this yesterday, but I saw a biker down on the A303 just at the turn off to RNAS Yeovilton. Police were at the scene and it looks like they were trying to comfort him (that's what I could make out in the dark). If you're out there, wishing you a quick recovery and I hope you're okay!

Bet that's the reason it was closed and I had to trek down the M3 to the M27 and the south coast to get home, instead of the A303.

Hope he/she is OK.

Not sure it was that, actually... there were quite a few problems on the A303 on the way home last night. I was heading eastbound from Yeovil. After hitting the A303, I saw a police car and ambulance heading westbound, then when I got to Podimore roundabout, half of that was closed off because a van had caught fire. It was completely burnt out by the time I got there - it looks like the fire service had only quite literally just put it out. Then as I was passing Yeovilton, where the bike was down. the road was still open, the bike was in the hatched area and traffic was being directed by the police. There didn't appear to be anyone else involved, but I didn't really take a good look at the area... just saw the bike on its side.

The M3 is a long way (at least an hour and a half) from Yeovilton.

I know, I was heading towards chard, so would have passed yeovilton and Podimore roundabout, but on the flashy screens on the M3 (I was coming from basingstoke) it said A303 closed after the A359, so the best alternative i could think of was M3/M27/A31

Wow! That's quite a detour! That was probably caused by the van, then. Podimore roundabout was closed off at quite a few sections, unless they sealed off the rest of the road by the bike accident later on as well.

Took me 2 hours from Basingstoke to chard, so about the same as the A303 actually, really surprised me.

best of luck to him. I think its unfair for fellow bikers to take the piss out of another biker showing concern to someone involved in a RTA, hopefully they and the rest wont be in the same position some day... Another thing. I am surprised that so many bikers on here pass my door every day (so to speak)
