hi all,
went to start the bike (aprilia rs125) this morning for the daily commute & nothing happened!
pressed start button but all i could hear was the relay clicking!
so knowing nothing about electrics, i jumped straight in & started ripping the bike apart!
anyway heres how far ive got:
took the starter motor off, stripped it down & cleaned it all up.
wired it up to 12v supply & it whirrs away quite happily.
so its not the starter motor, (phew, they are about 70 quid)
must be the relay, right? (thats ok, they are only 20 quid)
well i have connected up everything loosely, & when i press the start button while holding (not directly, dont want shocked!)
the motor against the engine casing (to earth it?)
the motor whirrs away, but not if i put the motor back in where it came from?
so does this suggest something is not connected up properly?
im thinking its not "earthing" as it should.
so how would i go about earthing it?
i have checked all the wires & they all look ok.
any ideas/suggestions welcomed,
as its the bus till its fixed!
cheers,
GAZ

Hi,
kill switch is off,
battery fully charged.
thinking its either wiring, relay or dodgy starter,
cheers,

sorry just re read your post properly, if your relay is clicking i doubt it will be that, youve already ruled out the starter motor. I'd probably put it down to dodgy wiring.

Hi,
one of the first things i checked,
its in neutral & wont start with sidestand up.
besides, normally, it still turns over if the stand is down, just doesnt fire up.
but at the moment im getting nothing but the relay clicking!
cheers,
GAZ

The fact the relay is clicking makes it sound like the battery is flat... i know youve said its charged but do you have another you could try on it, or a booster pack etc.
