Can anyone tell me whether the old xl125 trails bike fork internals are the same as it's newer model xl125 varadero?

I've bought brand new stanchions for the vara and it turns out now I need dampening rods and the small springs. More money!

If I could get hold of fork internals that would fit and work with the fork bottoms from the vara I would be happy.

I need to figure out what I'm doing asap so I can send these back and hopefully get a refund (minus postage I assume, unfortunately).

Cheers everyone!

Just rang my nearest honda center, and they haven't the foggiest!

They said about the part number probably being different which would suggest that the parts aren't the same.

Any ideas?

if the part number is different, its extremely likely that theyre different.

If you got it from a breakers yard dont trust them, theyre retards, just because an XL from 05 has a similiar name to an XL from 1998 doesnt mean its the same.

The bike I bought the new stanchions for is an 03 honda xl125v varadero. I assumed that the stanchions came with the dampening rods and the little springs, but they don't. According to david silvers they're sold as different bits.

Silvers emailed me a diagram of the forks showing all the pieces and I got quoted for the bits I need and it comes up to £90!

The stanchions themselves were £110 (I actually saved £110 on these - Half price technically). I've also ordered oil seals and then I'll need fork oil - I have the bushes.

So all in all it's gonna cost around £210. The parts aren't for me but i'm doing this for a mate to get his bike back on the road. It's turning out to be a right headache.

I just wish I could find a pair of second hand forks for a shed load cheaper, but I can't.

The way it's looking, it's going to cost more for the forks than the frame! I've already bought a front wheel, a mudguard, an engine inspection cap, a front indicator, a full set of front fairings, a side stand. All we need now is the rest of the forks, the frame and a set of handlebars.

I really do appreciate any help anyone can give me. Facts, suggestions, people to contact - anything.

Cheers people.
