I would report it to the police and the DVLA, I don't know whether you will get another disc or a refund.

IIRC it costs about £8 to get a replacement one, so it's up to you if you want to bother. All that will happen is that the new one will be nicked, too. I haven't displayed mine for years, as at the start they were nicked a couple of times.

I don't know why people rob tax discs, they're useless on anything except the bike they came from, and bike ones aren't worth much anyway unless you have a stupidly large engine.

But it fools a lot of parking attendents who walk past the car/bike and think its taxed. No disk will get a much closer inspection and ticket from a parking attendent.
You would be amazed how easy it is to change the details on them as well to your reg.... Thats if it can e read in the 1st place after been out in the wet..

I have had about 3 tax discs robbed over the years, always form central london, If i have the disc now it usually lives in my wallet, but for my current bike i cant be arsed to pay 7/8 quid to replace something that was stolen from me, it shows as taxed to the police, i have been given a bollocking and threats by numerous snotty police about failure to display being an offence, as long as you swallow your pride and do the whole "I had no idea CUNTSTABLE, it must have fallen off/ got nicked yesterday, i'll report that right away" a nice touch is asking if they can take the report then and there as you are genuinely shocked... Either way i think mines up for renewal in April

I've never had one nicked, but if I did I'd replace it.

It's one offence not to have a tax disk, and it's a completely separate one not to display it.

(Not many coppers will do you for it though).

Black and white photo copy Thumbs Up
Not worth them nicking as it wont fool anyone, but at least it shows the police something and you can explain why you keep the genuine one in your wallet.

Snap, although i have a colour scanner, i scan it, write COPY, ORIGINAL WITH OWNER, and then leave the real one in a secure place (the ZZR had a lockable compartment)

Only a real CUNTstable would do you for that Wink

Mine lives under the seat on the left hand side. It's displayed, sort of, if I remove the seat. Laughing

well i had my bike stolen, they cloned my plate..as mine was cracked from a crash earlier..and stole my disc.

apparently when i had no bike at all..i was cruising through london picking up HUGE bike fines like riding in bus lanes, parking on streets..amazing..

I still have no tax disc, reported to cops n dvla..still nothing, they said they will send replacement..never happened, so if i get pulled..i just say that

It wasn't robbed, it was stolen.

If *you* were robbed, then a person would have had to threaten you and demand the tax disc.

sorry.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

i dont display mine because i cant find anywhere on the bike where it looks nice (not that i'd admit that to a police man/woman) i did keep it in my wallet but i think my current one is with all of my other docs in the cupboard!

I don't even go that far. Just scan it, laminate it to make it waterproof and display that. You can barely tell the difference in its holder. Keep the real one in my wallet.

Changing the reg details on the disk wouldn't be difficult, that's why many people (myself included) put sellotape across the writing. It cannot be removed without destoying the disc. My tax discs are also always fitted to the holders with superglue.
