Heavy rain+tiredness+heavy breaking at last minute at roundabout= stupid stupid girl Sad That about sums it up, damaged nerve in knee still cant feel it 2 years later. Was stupid enough to have disc lock in pocket due to laziness and near smashed my ribs. Still I got back on two weeks later when I could walk. Lesson learned also. Thumbs Up

13 years of age on a moped that had peddles..you had to ride it like a push bike to start it...flying down the field at the top speed of 35 mph
back end lost it i sum how went over the handle bars landed on my arse and thought that was not to bad,the bike was still going though and went straight into the back of me.

second off, last summer, "watch this boys" Laughing Laughing Laughing
was in a gravel car park with all my friends, none of them ride and were all scared to open my bike up.. i showed them how it was done slide about 20 foot on my back straight into a huge rock used to block cars from entering. yes i felt stupid.

You want details of people coming off bikes! you some kind of sicko? each to their own I suppose,
I didn't relise there was folks who had fetishes about peeps having accidents you sound like your licking your lips in antisipation at the thoughts of stories of pain, blood guts etc etc

Or am I reading this wrong, perhaps I'm a sicko because I find someone who has an interest in accident details strange Shocked

You ever fell off a push bike at 2/3 miles per hour and scraped your knee? well times that by whatever speed you happen to fall off at and let your imagination do the rest.

It bloody hurts and your pocket when you come to repair your pride and joy.

I speak from experience.

Hope your a sensible young man and wear all the right protection for riding a bike. Thumbs Up

my first one, i was driving in a group of mopeds, about 7 of us, i braked for a speedbump and the guy behind me tried to pop a wheelie and went into the back of me, i was travelling about 30. It hurt with no protective gear except a helmet.

Had a lot since then though, one time I simply forgot to put my sidestand on, let go of the bike, it fell on my naked leg, the hot exhaust scolding through my skin. (ouch...a friend had to lift it off me).

it's not fun Thumbs Down

I went 22 years without an off, so it is not something everyone does when they first get a bike.

It hurts like hell, on both body & bank balance, therefore it is not something to be looking forward to.

Bought a brand new 07 CG march last year, two days after getting it went round a roundabout in the wet and
new tyres + dodgy camber + wet + not experienced enough to keep it steady = down! slid along ground
at about 15-20ish, holding onto bike as i didnt want to damage it, scraped two foot off my ass and
came to a rest with the bike on top of me, feeling a bit warm, with the indicator still flashing and the back
wheel still spinning. Sad
Coupla cars stopped to see if i was ok to which i replied "im fine but my F**king Bike!" Mad
NOOOOO!
I scraped up the exhaust and bent the right footpeg. Not so new and shiny anymore. God Dammit.

First proper off? I had ridden down to Oxford was joining the A34 I think it is from a fiddley little B road that linked from the A43. Long, long curving offramp onto the road, a real sweeper.

At the time I had no righthand mirror for reasons which escape me, but might have something to do with an overenthusiastic nut tightening.

So when joining the A road I was looking as far back over my right shoulder as I could trying to judge my entry. I lookd so far back I stood the bike up and all of a sudden my direction was 90 degrees to the traffic on the A road.

I paniced, hauled on the brakes for an emergency stop. My errant course had put me into the gravel thart collects at the sides of the road.

I don't remember what actually happened next.

Switched back on face down sliding to a halt on gravel - can remember watching the gravel slide across my visor. I had crossed the chevroned area and the top of my head was on the white line for the A road.

I picked myself up and ran to my bike which was still running to shut her off. I then performed the I am alive dance in the chevroned area still in my full kit.

Which was embarressing when I turned round and there was a big white van parked up behind me. The driver had seen me come off and looped back to check on me. He checked I was physically okay, helped me pick up the CG and told me about his Harley.

He went off after I had a cigarette and assured him I only had a sprained my wrist with a little roadrash to one knee. You have no idea the amount of gear I was wearing. Smile

Now my excuse for the next couple of hours is that I shake like a leaf after an adrenalin rush anyway and stopping with my head only inches away form carwheels was a bit of a rush.

After finishing my cigarette I went into Oxford, met up with my friend and did the things we needed to do for the next event we were running. Now my wrist was starting to really hurt so I figured I had badly sprained it.

Deciding that the wrist was only getting worse I bailed from my friends after three hours and start the ride home. I realised I was in trouble when I pulled off the A34 and came to a round about for a road taking me to the A43.

I couldn't pull the brake lever. Somehow I kept control and slid the bike to a halt. I will never forget that B road. I maintained a speed around 30mph, leaning on the throttle to keep it open as I had no longer had any control over my right hand. Every so often I would twist the throttle open with my left hand and then lean on it again to keep it open.

I got the the M40 services and pulled in abandoning the Bike. I spoke to the on duty manager who allowed me to secure the bike to the back of the building and then rang my misses to come and get me. Fortunatley she was awake.

She managed to find me in a couple of hours. By this time I was bending over my arm trying not to scream and doing lamars type breathign exercises.

My misses decides I need casualty and drives straight to the Leicester Royal. Which by this time I wasn't objecting to and they feed me morphine, which was nice.

Turns out I had broken a tiny, little bone in my wrist and ended up in plaster for six weeks. The bike was recovered the next night with the help of a friend - dukanmortis on here - and was back in road worthy condition by the end of the week. This time with mirrors.

My first off taught me that you shouldn't open the throttle while leaning and on mud, even (especially?) on a 50.

My first off on a road was the first day I'd taken my newly acquired 125 to work. It was pissing down on the way back and I took far too much speed into a corner I could do at near full speed on the 50.

My first off that hurt (me and the bike) was caused by having to brake to avoid a car coming the other way on a blind corner in the wet I highsided and landed on my hand. The wrist still isn't at full strength now.

Hit the back of a car as she pulled out infront of me whilst turning into college on a filter road! Just told me that a classy woman in a volvo is not exempt from being a complete prune! and yes she admitted that she DIDN'T see me!

irst two weeks with my brand new aprilia rs 125. went into a corner way to fast and didn't come out of it very well. I just remeber waking up in the middle of the road, with a fit lady staring over me. I was fine, but I took one side of my bike out.dam. If you want to ride fast and hard then anticipate an off sometime, even though it wont be your fault.

4th night on two wheels. Had a Derbi Senda capable of 70mph, had a 89cc kit, bigger carb and full exhaust system. At the time I bought it, the previous owner neglected to tell me any of that.

Anyway, big hill that leads to a tight corner. Took it too fast as didn't expect it. Straight off the road, over a ramp and into a bush in a field, made a few ft of air.

I'd be crippled/injured if:

There wasn't a bush there to absorb the impact.
It wasn't a crosser.

Managed to get out unharmed, but MASSIVE LESSON LEARNED. Never again. If it had been a wall, fence etc I could've been dead.

Fucking twat on the school run, reversed into me, luckily I managed to dive off just after beeping. No damage, apart from a scratch to the bar end. Called him a few expletives and when he answered back threatened to put his face through his windscreen. He was happy to leave it at that.

First off was actually quite funny, thinking about it...

Had my Fazer for about a week, just after passing my DAS...I'd had a few "moments" where I nearly dropped it at low/no speed because I was struggling with the weight of it, after picking up some bad stopping habits in the two weeks I spent on a 125.
So I tried to do a U-turn on a narrow residential street, on a fairly significant hill, with parked cars on both sides and gravel everywhere. In retrospect, what the hell was I thinking?
It was all going so well until I passed through the camber change in the middle of the road and found myself rolling straight towards the bonnet of one of the parked cars. Touched the front brake and went down, bike fell on me and left me with nicely bruised ribs-area and the worst part was as I went down, my horribly expensive Shoei X-Spirit smacked right into the tarmac, leaving a massive dent in the inner liner. So scrap.

I did exactly the same bloody thing a few months later, U-turning an SV650 on a hill. With friends. Although it didn't hurt this time and nothing got damaged, that was hilarious. I don't do U-turns anymore.

Relating to the bigger topic of what you're letting yourself in for, the way I see it, whereas a car is inherently safe until you do something stupid with it, a motorbike (especially a heavy, powerful one) is inherently dangerous until you make it safe. Much care and precision required.

My first off... Was riding very slowly and very carefully on a cold wet night... Turned into a side road, rear end clipped a manhole cover and bike went down before i knew what happened.

One second was riding as normal, next second im on the floor and can hear my bike sliding on tarmac.

Thing is, i've clipped manhole covers at speed, in the wet, and all you feel if a brief twitch. The less time the wheel spends on the slippy surface, the better.

They are the worst, wet or even worse, frosty mornings. I've clipped a few now, especially on blind corners, or just not looking ahead enough, and they scare me each time. I've pretty much memorised all the ones round my area and on my regular routes to avoid. But you never know when your going round that big corner in nowhere.

Worst encounter I've had, was going round a corner on a cold night, and managed to hit a cover, back wheel kicked out, so I let off the power, counter steered from the slide and managed to keep upright, but went into the other side of the road, luckily nothing was coming the other way.

Seems there's a few people whose first crash/slide involved a roundabout.
Well, me too.

It was late, the roads were empty and I was breezing upto a roundabout at about 25mph probably and it was clear. Suddenly a car sped round onto the entry lane 2 to my right and I panicked and hit the brakes.
It was torrential rain at the time and my front tyre hit the white line between 2 lanes and I just felt the whole front end slip away.
I was pissed off, but because of my gear I wasn't hurt at all. I just got up and went off again after some cars stopped to see I was ok.

In hindsight, I should have just carried on. I had enough time to get to the roundabout and as it happened, the car took the next exit so never even crossed my path. But just lucky it wasn't worse.
