Hay. I recently noticed that there is a lot of track bikes being sold for a more than exciting price, so this idea came to my head.. What mods do u need to carry out on a track bike to make it road legal?

So far i am thinking of putting some mirrors on Cool (obviously) and replacing the race exhaust so it follows the law to stay under a cirtain Decibel (dB). But thats as far as i got. If n e 1 knows n e thing about this then please, post oyur views Very Happy

Depends what's been done to it to make it a track bike. Some might just be road bikes with track fairings, some might be seriously rebuilt mish-mashes of various write-offs. Some might be tuned ex-race bikes that need loads of maintenance. Some might not have a V5 at all, for various reasons.

It's not something you can generalise about, you'd need to look at each bike individually to get an idea of how much work it'd be to get it through an MOT.

Also beware that some frames may have been declared written off too so you may have issues insuring them once youve sorted out everything else. I think itchy has a good idea though, get one thats the same model as your road bike and take all the good trick bits off it if its got stuff like race suspension etc. Generally works out cheaper than buying the parts seperately (seem to recall he was offered an NC30 with fully adjustable maxton suspension for a grand, the units themselves can be 500-700quid). Then flog the rest of the bits.

No, you just need to find out exactly what needs doing.

Don't do what I did; buy the track bike, ride it until it needed an MOT (and a while after), then never get around to doing the few fairly simple bits it needs for an MOT and leave it sitting in your Marjay's garage for a few years Smile.
