iv noticed my forks is fairly stiff compared to other dtr's iv tryed.

will changing oil the fork oil make any difference?

or should i renew the springs?

First of all I'd check to see if the forks have been played with. Someone may have put extra spacers in to increase the preload or added extra oil to decrease the air gap. To check the air gap its usualy done with the forks vertical, fully compressed and with the springs out. Or as you have suggested someone may have put in a thicker fork oil. If the spacers and air gap are OK then I would drain out the fork oil and replace with whatever Yamaha recommends. You'll get all the information you need from a haynes/workshop manual.

*I am assuming that the forks on a DT are non adjustable.
