Hi,

I'm 16 in less than a fortnight and am going to be buying either an Aprilia Classic '03 or a Derbi GP50 '03, but both are in need of an MOT and both are derestricted. Will the bike pass if derestricted?

Also, how complicated would it be to restrict the bike, pass the MOT, and then derestict it again afterwards?

I have a good amount of mechanical experience with bikes as well as a couple of years off road riding under my belt.

cheers

They don't check power output at an MOT, so yes, it will pass, unless the derestriction makes it stupidly smoky (they may do an emissions check though I think on a 2t it's only a visual one).

really?

fantastic (y)

they don't do a speed check on the rollers either do they?

cheers, I'm fully aware of the things that could happen if I ride a derestricted moped, and am prepared to take the consequences if they arise. However, I know what makes a good rider thanks to my dad, and I'm not going to be a w****r and ride over the speed limit so it shouldn't come up.

There's no emissions test for any bike at the MOT, so no worries there.

you need to do a CBT first even if you have tax mot insurance you still need a ----------CBT---------- costs about £100
so unless you done a cbt or got it booked for your birthday you will be able to ride it anyways the CBT is piss easy Laughing Laughing

is it possible to do a CBT on one of their bikes before I'm 16?

Hopefully I can book my CBT for my birthday but I might need some unscheduled time off school, my birthday is next friday (leap day).

Also, I read about having to get a form for a license from the post office. Once I've filled it in what do I do with it? post it off? take it to the CBT?

cheers

Hi

No, you can't do the CBT before your birthday. You will also probably find that you cannot do your CBT on your own bike (your insurance probably won't cover you until you have done your CBT).

All the best

Keith

haha ok so the answer is probably no then, having to get a license, do my CBT on one of their bikes and then get insurance for mine sounds like a mission and a half for one day. How long(ish) should the license take to arrive?

Also, can I tax the bike before passing my CBT?

Sorry, just eager to ride, I've been waiting for a long time lol

I've lost the page on the DVLA maze they call a website but if memory serves you can apply for your driving licence at 15 years and 9 months, it just won't commence until your 16th birthday.

On and you can apply online here.

Apply for your license now, hopefully you will get it in a few weeks, as soon as it comes book a CBT. Note that if you want to do it on your own bike you will have to trailer it there by law, you'll be best off using one of their 'peds I think.

You can sort the insurance now, and MOT and tax if you can get someone else to ride it to the MOT.

thanks for the link Kal I would have never found that on my own. I just sent off my license application, the webpage closed, so I sent it to the address everywhere else on the site, and put my address and reference number on the back of the envelope

I have realised that it might be possible to do my CBT on my birthday if I get it taxed and MOT'd in time, and then I can just ride away right?

Your requirements
16, Provisional licence & CBT

The Bikes requirements
Insurance, MoT and Tax.

So yes.

If you have someone licenced and insured to ride your bike then they can ride it to and from a pre-booked MoT for you under the rules of VERA 1994 Schedule 2 Section 22

Like I said I would still use one of their peds for the CBT, it saves hassle and if you drop it then it's not your own pride and joy Razz
