Any suggestions? Bike is an 2000 SV650S.

Disconnect Optimate III go for a ride, come back, battery is now too flat to start the bike!

Disconnect Optimate III leave bike for a few hours and battery is too flat to start the bike!

I have two batteries and both will hold their charge when off the bike it is only when they are connected that they are drained.

When bike running at idle there is 14V across the battery, rev to 3000 and this drops to about 11.6V, turn on the lights and it drops a bit more!

Regulator/Rectifier has been changed without any improvement.
Generator has been looked at (although not after a run and so not overly warmed up) and seems ok.

There is a meta alarm on the bike could this have some wiring fault?

Any suggestions for things to try would be much appreciated?
Cheers
Ed

Could be the alarm.

Also it doesn't seem right that the voltage would drop at higher revs, surely it should increase?

Best bet, though, is to connect a good ammeter in series between the battery + terminal and the + power lead, check the current draw (while the bike is off), and disconnect things till you isolate the cause.

Sounds like a problem in there, still.

Was the new reg/rec definitely good?
Have you checked figures with the manual to make sure they're all showing correct resistances etc?

Just to add - if you don't have an ammeter, connect a headlight bulb in series with the battery instead. With the ignition off it should be dim or not on at all, if it's bright then there's a serious draw somewhere.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I have a mechanic looking at it as am a complete amateur in this area especially electrics. The replacement reg/rec was new and in fact two have been tried.
Have been starting to scratch heads as to what it might be.
Will be giving the bike a run and rechecking the gen when everything hot and after that try disconnecting the alarm.
Cheers
Ed

It sounds like a regulator fault.
