My rvf400's left hand fork seal is leaking, ive taken her off the road until i get it fixed but the fork appears to be pitted Crying or Very sad will i need to replace then entire fork section?

Matt

P.s
whats the max a race tuned rvf400 should hit, ive managed 140 just outside the redline and 150 1.5k into it Shocked, wouldnt have believed it if i didnt have milo redlining his tuned xj900 behind me doing the same....

Have you both got standard gearing?

Also it's quite likely that speedos will be at least 10% off, which would be about right.

You can get the stanchion rechromed, have a look through the ads in MCN.

Redoing sounds cheaper then rebuying.

Im not sure what the gearing is set to, both our bikes have been heavily messed with and mine is def ex racer. Other 400's ive taken on seem to have sligtly more low down power while mine realy screams near the redline.

Hi

Rechroming is fairly easily done. Also worth thinking about some aftermarket ones. Company called ABE (All Bike Engineering) do replacement forks for lots of bikes.

All the best

Well for the comedy value i decided to see what dobles in coulsdon would recommend, they said i would need an entire new left hand fork at a cost of 911.47 including vat and plus fitting Shocked

Think im never going to go back there again, when i mention rechroming he suddenly looked surprised and said they couldnt arrange for it.....

Going to let them fix my clutch then take it to another local dealer for the rest of the work.

Burnt it out Rolling Eyes Im not exactly the burnout master and messed one up, the clutch wasnt exactly perfect before that anyway.

On the bright side once the fork and clutch are done there isnt much work i could possibly do to it Very Happy wouldnt pass an mot through with the current exhaust....

The clutch is actually suprisingly easy to replace.

Would reccomend giving it a go doing it yourself.

back to something someone mentioned above, i doubt his gearing's been messed with-unless it's got even more power than i thought. it currently goes like it's geared to 120, and as for my shaft drive...that's not possible i don't think. but oh, would i love a 6th gear!

I think that you need a special tool to replace RVF/VFR clutches. You also don't need springs like most other bikes, so it's just a case of replacing the plates. I never had to do it on my RVF, but it's always good practice to do it yourself.

Ah, okay.

Though worst case you take it to the shop when you messed it up and say 'you sort it' (ignoring how you get it there Smile )
