...a 'generic' top of the range sportsbike such as:

and a piece of motorcycle erotica like:

Question

What does the extra money actually buy at the end of the day.

A bike that costs twice as much is twice the bike?

Is it the converse to the Chinese bike argument for poor quality and build standards at a cheap price but in this instance its far superior to the 'normal' bikes. This would suggest that they are more bullet proof but somehow I suspect that they are more temperamental and fragile if you are led to believe all the Ducati stories true or false as it turns out.

If you had to scrimp and save, would you miss the odd meal for the more expensive bike?

Exotica is more for collectors who only ever ride their bike once in a blue moon, keep it in their manor in a heated garage with such like. I yearn for a Bimota, but why pay for an uber souped ducati or suzuki. They rarely hold their value well and until recently bimota had an issue with their spares.

Take their SB8K/R which is an ultra refined, paoli suspended TL1000R for 26k! I've not seen one on the road!

For a day to day rider the generic sportsbike will make more sense. The connoisseurs will probably take the exotics.

Exclusivity. That's what the extra money buys.

A Gixxer thou is mass produced by the thousand, but Bimota is only going to build a couple of hundred SB8's and the economics of buying in all the parts in low numbers is reflected in the price.

I agree with Titz, I've never seen anything fancy being ridden hard.

Well, thats not really true - one night when my mate completely destroyed his Corona GSXR, a bloke on a Benelli Tornado stopped to see if we were ok, he gunned the shit out of it when he left, and whilst we were in the middle of nowhere, we could hear the fucking thing for 25 minutes. Being utterly fucking raped. Thumbs Up

(The bike, not us in hillbilly country)

Seen an MV twice, both times a pizza hut scooter guy would have roasted the rider.
