Off road camping trip

I've got permission from both bosses, (home and work!) to take a few days out in a couple of weeks and go on a little trip all by myself!

I'll be on the DR and carrying a small tent, so the world, all be it this tiny corner of it, is my oyster!

I hope to spend as much time off road on trails as possible in preparation for the Spain trip hopefully planned for next year. Only problem is I just can't decide where to go. It's either Wales, The Lakes of The Pennines, but I won't know any trails there when I arrive either.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to find areas rich with easily found trails, or any maps you have used in the past with trails you have used marked on them?

Any help appreciated, I don't want to go and be stuck on tarmac all the time!!!
