Broken bones & riding

Last year i broke my right hand, Well the socket that locates my middle finger and i shattered my middle finger down the middle and i took a break from biking, i have just gone back to 2 wheels and was wondering does anyone else who has broken their hand suffer discomfort over distance as i find my hand is very sore and stiff to move and i find my throttle control and braking is a bit jerky at times due to this

You can get those supports for your wrists designed for long distance riding, like a throttle wrist rest. Could help you out a little.

Get one of those power ball things, or there's other ways to strengthen your wrists.

I think they're like the gloves designed for scaphoid damage, Also, without seeing a medical professional, how can you tell if your left thumb is definitely broken at the base?

It's possibly scar tissue and will ease off if you excersise. (Possibly not and could require surgery)
Or it could be Arthur-ittus depending on your age and general condition.

The problem with the supports is that they can interfere with feel on the throttle which is a cnut on roundabouts......

Try one of those grip training tools like wot muscle men are aye squeezin'. Or a squeezing a squash all. Or buy a powerball.

(Or stop playing with it so much and give the tendons a proper rest.)

I bust my middle finger socket (left hand) a couple of years ago and it still swells up somewhat and gets stiff if I'm on the clutch a lot.

It has got considerably better over the last year though, it's almost back to full movement when a year ago I could only move it through about half of it's range of motion. So give it some time, it should improve.

Although buy a wrist strap, dont think you dont need one =[

Dropped mine at like 9000rpm, basically nailed the whole sphere, and the customer services dept are telling me i was being careless i think.

Broke my scaphoid on my left wrist, a powerball and wrist support worked it's magic. I can ride all day with no discomfort. It's just a case of excercising your hand to get it back to full strength.

Fractured my scaphoid last year too it still hurts. I still have the elasticated support thing but never wear it now. I found I had to wear it when driving.

Where do you get these fractured scaphoid widgets? I done my left one too. And will any normal powerball do? How long after the cast off can you 'use it'?

No from riding but was keeping in goals playing soccer about 3 months ago and had the ball jam the end of my thumb on my right hand.
It swelled up and stayed like that for 2 weeks with some nice bruising and still hurts like shit on a long ride.
It can be very frustrating because it looks perfectly fine but is still very lacking in strenght.
It's funny how something so simple can be a pain in the arse for such a long time

The normal powerballs are no where near as good and as balanced, i bought one from argos gets to about 6000 rpm and its jumping out of your hand,

Bought a real NSD powerball and i can get it to about 9500 before i cant do anymore, but you can do more if your stronger obviously.

I maxed my powerball at 10,000. I had to stop trying to beat it because I got RSI in my wrist
