Ok. Did my CBT a couple of weeks ago which was the first time I've ever been on the road, car or bike. Thought it went well. Today was going fairly well but my clutch control and gear changes weren't great but we did ok and had a good ride on a 125.
Then got to car park, switched to 500 and then lost it completely. Not sure why, maybe its cos I'm now being looked at properly and have feel a bit ofpressure - not sure what it is but basically had to ride round the car park, changing up the gears then braking, back down the gears, turn, accelerate, back up the gears etc etc. I just couldnt grasp it!

I cant seem to get the braking, then clutch, down the gears etc right and when I do one thing wrong, it all seems to go wrong and I lose concentration completely. Thing is, on the road I eel fine, its just when I'm under close examination like this!

Any ideas what can help? Long shot I know but got day 2 tomorrow and starting on the 500 straight away I think

You might find you get on it tomorrow and are fine. Sometimes it's a bit much to take in on the day and once you have a break and it sinks in a bit overnight you might find you are fine.

Just think it through in your head tonight and visualise what you need to do.

agreed as above, you might find tommorow your fine mate just think it all through in your head. Sounds to me like you have problems being watched so closely, i had the same thing when i need my 5 day das last week, but once you master the controls of the bike it all begins to fall into place.

If it makes you feel better i crashed on my cbt doing emergency stop, 5 days later passed full test with only three minors and now feel like i can ride with confidence and love it.

It will all come mate, dont expect too much from yourself so soon, i did and it doesnt work, give yourself time Smile

Oh and ask for full explanaitions of gear changing as i know some instructors dont teach it all, if your struggling remember clutch in dip the throttle gear up, youll be fine mate

Good Luck

hi mate, just take your time and relax. its very easy if you make a mistake to get too flustered which only leads to more mistakes.
just stay cool, be positive and you'll be fine Very Happy Thumbs Up

Only passed a few months on DAS, I distinctly remember the "overnight" thing. You will be fine tomorrow, it just takes time for it all to assimilate and you have reached capacity today. Relax, make sure you do all you can to get a good nights sleep, the brain will do the rest.

Though slow speed control and gear changes are an essential part of learning to ride, performing the manoeuvre 50 or 100 times on a car park is a bit of a strain particularly when you're new to it.

You will find that once you're out on the road it will be easier, your balance and control will be better and you will feel more fluid. In fact I'll go so far as to say that you'll start enjoying it, you'll find the optimum speed/rpm in each gear and realise that it's almost easy.

Realistically we don't change up and down the gears in the way you were taught today, but just as learning to write is mundane repetition and even painful at times, so too is learning to ride.

Try and relax and forget that you're being monitored, ride for youself and no one else, listen carefully to your instructor and do your best to meet the required standard.

All the best for your test. Thumbs Up

Hi, I just did my DAS in November and hated it! Dropped (and broke) the bike doing U Turns. Mock test the day before the real one I couldn't do the U Turn without a foot down, nearly side swiped a moped, locked the front wheel & dropped the bike at a junction, foot down on hill start. It was horrendous!

Next day passed my test with 6 minors. Even cleaned the U Turn. You'll do OK, each day you get better.

Yesterday and today were brilliant. Got put in at the deep end yesterday and straight out on the 500 on the road and within 5 mins, had it sorted. Just got to master u-turns tomorrow now - test is tomorrow afternoon! Keep buggering up u-turns now!

Anyway, wish me luck!

Good luck!!!

I struggled on the u-turns as well, we did them that much the 2 hours before the test i could have done them blind folded by the end

I remember just before i started it on the test i said aloud to myself "well, come on, this is it"
So pleased when i nailed it we got back to the test centre and i was thinking "OMG what if i did something else stupid"

Concentrate on it, and try to get a good nights sleep Thumbs Up

remember to ride for yourself, and dont hesitate waiting for a big enough gap for you and the instructor!!! many people fail by hesitating as they are in the mind set of riding for two rather than for themselves, stay calm and just enjoy it Wink

when i did my test the examiner told me to ride for myself, if he got left behind then so be it (he told me afterwards it gives him a good excuse for a play !!)

The key on riding bigger bikes is the relax and enjoy i understand thats its easier to say than to do but it really is the key !!!

Just remember, it doesn't matter what direction you go in, just so long as you do it safely.
I lost my examiner for a full 10 minutes on my test after doing a u-turn on a roundabout instead of going right, still passed! Very Happy
