hello to all BCF members, Very Happy
this is my first first so please be kind Smile

well to start off with i have passed my CBT and have got my eyes set for a dtr.

just wondering what are your thoughts on this bike ?

will only be using her to commute every day about 5miles a day and the odd offroad fun at the weekends.

would a 2 stroke 125 bike cope with long journeys, say 25miles non stop?
not going to be like this everyday, but the odd ride outs etc.

thanks.

Hello mr who, A dtr is a great bike they remained pretty much unchanged untill the latest electric start model which is pretty much just a tzr engine so reliability shoudn't be an issue so long as its maintained properly.

As far as long journeys are concered i do an average of 12k miles a year and the dtr i owned never let me down, except for a side stand switch playing up.

I used to go from birmingham to coventry most weekends, via country lanes, probably 35-40miles one way depending on the route.

What i will say is use quality two stroke oil, and if your buying a used bike change the oil pump!!!, more as prevenative measure than any thing and change your piston rings every 5-7k miles if memory serves the head doesn't have to come off a dtr for this, but a new base gasket will be needed.

I learnt that lesson on a tzr i built for my brother the pump on that was working but not passing enough oil, resulting in three rebuilds before i decided he wasn't just thrashing it on a fresh engine, changed the oil pump and whala

had mine for 10 months done little over 12000 miles and not a single problem, just the stearing lock really not seeming to be too strong, had some youngsters bust it like it was playdoh

long journeys are fine rode it from brighton to haverhill (near cambridge) which is about 100-150miles I think, with only a couple of short stops for fuel/refreshments
