They claim that the hornet carries the same engine as the CBR 600RR, but it's "detuned"
What does that actually mean? Do they just make it a little shitty on purpose? Laughing
Or is it something to do with the FI system?

I guess there will be different ECU mapping and that the gear box will be different. But thats only a guess.

Hi

Normally an engine is detuned with different carbs / throttle bodies, different cams, maybe a heavier crank, lower compression, smaller valves, different design of exhaust, etc.

General idea is to loose some some top end and gain some mid range power.

All the best

Keith

My Speed Four is exactly the same as the TT600 (The sports bike version) apart from plastics the cams and the injection mapping.

I've seen plenty of girls riding CBRs but I wouldn't call it a girls' bike.

Eh don,t think so. Cool
They,re geared differantly and jets in the carbs are smaller in the Hornet on early ones like mine.
Suppose to be easier in urban traffic to ride? Don,t really know myself as there,s no traffic build ups here.

while tt600 and speed four have the same spec suspension and frame, most naked bikes based on a sports bike have lower spec suspension

the speed four is unusual, as its only the engine set up which is different

i suspect that the hornet has lower spec suspension than a cbr600rr and obviously the frame will be different so it wont handle as well

Hornet type frame

Twin Spar type (R1) frame.

Hornet frames are kinda weak, I've seen plenty of them crack at the steering head when crashed lightly.

A few questions:
What are cams? Embarassed

So would you have to change injection, ECU, frame, exhaust, and suspension to make a hornet a cbr?
Just out if interest, I'm not gonna try Wink

Hi

A cam in this context is the shaft that carries the eccentric lobes that operate the valves.

As to changing a CBR to a Hornet. Yes you would change most of it (and probably much of the engine as well).

All the best

Keith

Hi

Not certain the CBR engine would fit. Possible the inlets are at different angles, for example.

All the best

The old Hornets have the CBR600F2's engine, gearbox and front forks. The swingarm is virtually the same but it is half an inch wider, as the hornet has a 5.5" rear wheras the 600F2 has a 5". The ratios have also been widened a bit, especially 1st and 2nd which aren't quite as tall as the CBR's.

Some of the ancilliary kit (like levers and switches) are the same.

I believe they share the same brake components.
