right, here on the workshop forum again, this time its bad, i was going along and it started backfiring and cut out, pulled over to find a connector had come loose by the cdi, pushed it together and it worked for another couple of miles, then it conked out again, pushed the connector together again but this time it isnt starting, just turns over and over i checked for spark, no spark, got home and wired the wires into a new connector...no spark...have i mashed my coil or cdi? any ideas? cheers.

also looks like the connector was home made, pervious owner loved DIY, shame he didnt like doing it properly...any help? thanks in advance.

right gents, heres the low down...

...checked the connections, everything seems ok, but im no expert so it could still be earthing somewhere(hope to god it isnt), now some of the loom is wraped in green tape? please tell me this is stock, or im in real dodo, cause it looks like a fellow has been at it with a hacksaw, if im wrong ok, i just think that the green tape at certain points is a bit weird, maybe like its been tampered with and really dont wanna be tearing that apart looking for faults, but lets say for a second the loom is fine, i put another coil on, it was all together and turned it over, no spark... any ideas if any key connectors have gone? the cdi connector is now insulated, and the connectors down the left rear panel are all connected right too,
i did however wire in a new earth, with the flat ring shape head, cannot remember the real name of it, its the one the bolt goes through to fix the earth, anyway thats insulated but could that be earthing? can an earth earth? lol, bearing in mind someone had already crimped another wire for some reason that connects to the coil itself,

any help would be really really appreciated,

cheers,
Gary.

check with great attention the black/yellow wire coming from the CDI (on the 4 wires connector) , going to the coil primary and tachometer . most of bugs comes from oxyded or loose terminals
if your loom is not in good shape i've got one here from a 2001 UK bike , if you want it £25 including postage from france

lol, aw man were probably in the same boat, im going to see if i can get a volt meter on the coil and cdi and test for resistance, and if everything seems ok im going to ask alains nicely if i can buy that one off him, im loosing my mind with this the green tape is in a few locations, like he tried to wire in a new ignition system but the cdi and coil look stock, anyway, ill report what i find, i wish there was a way to test current the wires in the connector blocks that would realli narrow it down, can it be done? anyone know how? cheers for all your help im getting there! lol

ok, checked the loom, theres alot of bodged jobs on it, i cant understand why someone would mess a perfectly good loom, so my only suggestion is that it is an import, i was pretty sure it wasnt for some reason, but im going to check on the frame number in a min, i swear i saw a C but maybe not in the right place, and also i repaired alot of the wiring and everything seems to be connected up properly, but still nothing, it all turns over fine and i get lights and everything but just no spark, and i did try with a different coil, but could i have blown anything else except cdi? iv found (what i think is the signal unit) that looks ok but a bit worn, anyone have any experience with that?

anyway cheers for everything guys keep posting please lol

italian import serial begin by ZDCJC22A , UK by ZDCJC22C and they have the same specs . a well tuned IT or UK reach easily 100 Mph likle mine which is french but rebuid under UK specs
your CDI must be marked CI626 (not CI626A) and your RC/valves control unit TV78 .
