Draggin Jeans knee armour

Has anyone come up with a way of attaching the armour to the jeans in a fashion better than velcro on kevlar (which is very weak!). I'd like a more secure and permanent fitting.

I'm having the same problem mate, I tend to just hope they stay in place on the bike 'cos my legs are bent, then take them out when I get off. Not the greatest solution though, especially as there's no guarantee they'd stay in place if I had a spill...

You can sew hiprotek (SP) armour into it, You can get it from Hein Gericke for about £20 a pair.

You can sew a velcro strap onto it that goes round your leg like shin pads. Not the best solution but it works.

I was gonna buy some Draggin Jeans (are these the same as Hood?) as i've heard good things about them, and theyre much better than J&S own brand.

This thread has put me off a bit now. Is the armour on the inside of outside of the jeans? Whats all this about velcro?

All the dragin jeans I've seen come without armor, just kevlar lining but with velcro mounts to hold optional armor in place.

Some variants of hood's jeans can be ordered with armor permanently sewn in, that'd make things interesting when it comes to washing them though.

Why not buy bike specific kneepads that attach above and below the knee? Would think they wouldnt move around, Jeans could pull up or go down your leg and leave your knee's unprotected.

I've crashed in normal jeans (~40mph, 2 week old Levi's ) and my knee's got a damn good beating, Very lucky i never lost a kneecap. 7 Months on and they're far from having full strength back. Protect your knees.

The draggin jeans knee armour is some dodgy expanded foam impact stuff that extneds down the shin. It comes with a strip of velcro on the front of it to hook on to the inside of the knees of the Draggin Jeans.

Isn't too bad to ride in - in fact in winter it does a very nice job keeping your knees warm. It's just a nightmare when walking anywhere.

I only tend to use mine when it's cold or I am doing distance work. Otherwise I wear the combats without it.

I wear my D J's a a lot because they look (very nearly) like normal black jeans and I can use them for work. So for work, pottering in and around Bristol I wear 'em cos I don't get much above 40.

Anything else I tend to put on my armoured textiles.

In the end D J's are a compromise. One I am happy to make for comfort and practicality. If I felt I needed armour I would wear armoured textiles.

I wear black cos it goes with my job are they are not obviously jeans (unlike blue ones). They are not "drainpipe" jeans. I am a 40" waist and a 30" inside leg, they are snug round the arse and groin but not round the leg and I have thick legs.

At first they feel a bit odd because you can feel the kevlar on your knees and arse. But the denim is thick and the kevlar makes them feel warmer. I have not worn them on a warm day yet. I know I am going to be tempted to just wear jeans as I get hot easily.

I wear and armoured jacket but I do not put armour in the jeans. Two reasons firstly as in prev post it is a compromise to just trust kevlar. Secondly, after reading BCF it seems that the armour needs to be in reasonably tight fitting clothing to be effective e.g. not slip or be pushed out of place in an off. Jeans are not tight.

I am very happy with mine, I hope I never have to be forced to write about the kevlar v armour debate first hand. It is clear that kevlar will only stop "road rash" where armour will offer increased protection against smashing and breaking.

Dragging jeans are better than ordinary jeans but they are not armour.

I think i might buy some black ones for my short commute, but maybe buy some leathers or textiles with armour for my fun rides on weekends.

Regarding a more reliable way to fix in the knee armour, you could sew in a pocket on the inside of the DJ's with velcro at the top -just the same as you find in armoured jackets - as long as your stitching is reasonable that should hold them better than just the two strips of velcro and you can still take it out when you want.
