Ok, after a good few weeks of owning the CB and doing fuck all to it, I finally got off my arse.
Here she is when I got her - for the princeley sum of 110 english pounds.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/cb250rs002.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/cb250rs004.jpg
First was the MOT, failed on loose chain and dodgy centre stand. Took it home, tightened chain then set to work on the stand, or should I say lump of rusted metal (it has been a commuter tool for 20 years, and the stand is testement to this!!)
This was a nice day of hail and wind a few weeks ago, oh the fun I had lying under the bike freezing cold trying to wrench this fucking monstrosity off the bike. In the end just took a hacksaw to the bastard:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1002.jpg
Ok, MOT sorted, I then rode the bitch for a bit before knuckling down this weekend and borrowing my mate's garage for a couple of afternoons.
First off, whip the top of the rack and the seat off.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1003.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1004.jpg
Looking nice de-clothed, giving me ideas for future chop potential!
But for now, painting is the task.
By the way, this paintjob is lovingly dedicated to ZRX61
Mask the clocks and spray away. 'Prep' consists of a half-hearted rub over with some wet n dry to remove surface grub and loose rusty bits. Followed by a wipe with WD40 and then the rattle can of matt black!! Kepp it simple, I say!
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1005.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1006.jpg
Don't wanna remove the mudguard in case the bracket crumbles. So a cloth over the caliper/disc and off we go!
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1007.jpg
Getting there...
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1008.jpg
Masked the fuel cap, that's for later.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1009.jpg
Tail panel next. I could undo the six bolts and have the plastics away from the seat.
Orrrr, I could just lazily mask the seat.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1010.jpg
Cool, just enough paint and I'm done.
Except I'm not. My lovely assistant points out the side panels dumped on the drive and asks when I'm spraying them...
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1011.jpg
A quick drive to B&Q later, I return with a rip-off priced can of 'project paint'. Which is shit and doesn't match the rest, but I can redo them easy another time.
A quick blast over the manky red gaiters...
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1012.jpg
Looking good!!
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1013.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1022.jpg
The following day is Hammerite Day.
Fork legs, master cylinder, headlamp surround are all tatty.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1023.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1024.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1026.jpg
Kickstart, mirrors and clutch lever need a coat too.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1028.jpg
Mmm, thick drippy hammerite!!!
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1029.jpg
All done!!! And rack back on, minus shitty pizza box thingy.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1030.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1031.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1032.jpg
And of course that shiny petrol cap got a coat.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1033.jpg
Next on the list, I have 3 of these badgers
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/super_jo/phase1034.jpg
Two need to go either side as hard panniers, I am struggling with decent fixing ideas though, as I have no welding capabilities.
Also need to VHT the exhaust when I get paid.
This paintjob is not the final one though, I have something much more special planned, hence this is Phase 1. So although you may have wasted 5 minutes of your life thinking 'WTF? She's just plastered a crap bike in matt black and hammerite?!?!' There is more to come, trust me. ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

Cool I like the style, a back end chop will look good on that
If you're painting the exhaust in VHT paint, remember to give it a few dust coats and warm it up inbetween for a better dull finish ____________________ Check out our tackle shop on Facebook:

Bargain bike!
Looks like you've managed to get a really good finish for a matt black rattle can job, considering how lazy your prep was
looks pretty damn cool, will look better still with the ammo boxes. Was planning on fitting some to the H100 at some point actually. Plan was just to bolt together some 90 degree aluminium angle into a box structure to hold them, and bolt that to the seat mounting, and, well, to somewhere... Might even get technical and fit a hinged "lid" from the angle to sit on top of the box, so we could bung a padlock on and make the boxes more secure.
If we ever get round to it (planning on taking it camping in May, so we probably should...) we'll do a step by step, pics drawings etc.
Anyway, keep us posted. And it'd be awsome chopped ____________________ A2 passed 22/07/08; restriction up 22/07/10 (just so I don't forget)

don't use ali it'll fracture
flat steel plate 1 inch wide by 4 16ths thick by wotever length u can buy borrow or find in a Skip
Soild bar Similar thickness to rack size and a vice
ideally heat the steel plate up and bend it round the soild bar so you end up with a R Shape ( if u don't heat it up you can bend it via brute force but it'll weaken the plate somewhat)
x 4 of those 2 per pannier then one long piece of that plate stuff from the boxes to the rear footrest bolts to Support the weight
primer all the brackets and hammerite them
then drill yer holes mild steel bolts for all the fixtures and big washers either side of the bolt holes to cut down on vibration fractures , Knylocks for the nuts (Classed as a single use nut but they never undo)
the weakest point will be the rack a it's hollow mild steel tube ideally get the panniers a far forward on the rack as possible nearer the front end of the bike lol |

must... not... paint... my.. rs...... must... keep... clean.....
looks sweet mudskipper, as said before xl5 lumps fit in with little work (new top engine mount) if you fancy it.
for mounting the boxes, either use a hinge with a removable internal pin and replace with a split pin, this means you can remove it if you want to.
or get some old handlebar clamps, bolt the box to them and clamp the handlebar bit around the rack, its how i put the 30cal tin on my cg.
Cheers
John
p.s. get some plasticote barbecue paint for the end can, but make sure you hack a foot off before you paint it ____________________ own: 81 xs1100g...

Get some black spray paint on the engine so it looks absolutely spot on
I recently bought a tin of heat proof spray paint for £6 so well worth it. |

I don't usually like these type of bikes.. however. that is quite sexy.
Just paint the engine and exhaust, and leave it at that! |

What is it with people on this forum thinking "rat bikes" look cool?
I can understand tatty stunt bikes because its clear they are a stunter. And that is why their bike looks a tad on the messy side.
Im not slating you. Im sure people think being a tart is a waste of money or whatever. And fair weather riders are not real bikers.
But id rather look like a tart/power ranger/fair weather rider/poof. Than a peasant.
Good work however, if you like it its all that matters. Just not my t`ing thats all. |

When you first said you'd spray it matt black I thought it would ruin the bike but this looks pretty good, just stop being so lazy and match the fairings! ____________________ I Ride: Honda CBR 400RR.

mudskipper, you need a little headlight fairing like mine, tis a kmx125 if that helps, but just raid the plastics section at your nearest breakers.
oh and make a belly pan / bash plate up out of old sheet metal, it will look awesome, im making a belly pan for mine soon.
Cheers
