As you may have seen on the news, there is to be a vote in parliament tonight. They are deciding whether to have a referendum on the Treaty/European constitution.
Nick Clegg has ordered his party to abstain (not vote at all and so help Labour) but three of his shadow cabinet have threatened to resign so that they can vote.
David Cameron apparently wants a referendum.

So the question is this, if we had a referendum on the treaty, how would you vote?
Do you agree with Conservative Ken Clarke when he said "I look forward to the day when the Westminster Parliament is just a council chamber in Europe" or do you prefer a British government?

Feel free to add your own sensible comments.

British rule, just for the fact that I don't feel that Europe would have any idea as to how the UK should be run. What works in Europe won't necessarily work over here.

I know our government isn't particularly great at running the country.. But I feel we would suffer at the hands of a European rule.

The acid test is the next 24 months, in that the Euro is starting to slide heavily , and thus while Germany is suffering inflation , Italy can't control its defecits.

If we submit to euro rule, we'll end up with KPH speed limits, and a corrupt government in charge.

Our government may not be perfect, but at least if their expenses are 'dodgy' they get taken to account.

Whereas, you really want to look at how many euro MP's claim salaries (of up to 16000 euros per month) for 'assistants' who mostly do not exist.

British. Better the devil you know as they say.

Where's the option for a bit of both?

There are good parts of both the EU and Britain and combined they are a fairly good system.

Whilst I don't want our laws being made in Brussels, I also certainly do not want to see our country become excluded from European wide issues.

I can't say I know enough about the European Treaty to give an informed opinion of it, but if it is as radical as some people are making out, I would like a chance to analyse it and cast my vote on whether I wanted it or not.

What do you mean half in half out?.

People are being silly , Europe will still trade with us if we are not in the EU , they need our business more than we need theirs.

re- trade defecit + tourism,

Rhodisia now Zimbawe had embargoes and blockades of food and lux goods for a few years, they had money super market shelves remained full.

They buy our north sea gas, we buy their electricity, we buy their food.

Norway is a prime example its not in the EU and hasn't collasped, nor has Switzerland.

I'm not just talking trade, but I think being part of a greater "alliance" is a lot better than being an independant nation.

It's just my opinion. Rolling Eyes

Military dictatorship FTW. Thumbs Up

Gobby lefty whinger? Pop. Back of the head.

Gobby righty whinger? Pop. One in the forehead.

Tree-hugging liberal whinger? Stre-e-etch. How much do you like trees now you're dangling from one?

Workshy scum? Welcome to the mines. Or the front lines. Your call, chief.

Promiscuous teenager? Enjoy your work experience in the field brothels while the state brings up your child properly.

Illegal immigrant? Yes it really is surprising how many people you can get into a cattle truck, isn't it? Never mind, it's only until Calais, then you're an EC problem.

NHS Trust Chief Executive? You - or one of your children - will be injected with a culture grown from the blood of the next patient in one of your hospitals to die from a hospital acquired infection.

Social worker? See what happens to NHS bods who lose someone in their care? Guess what we have behind door number one for you.

Career politici - ah, fuck it - BLAM!

Entire country sorted in five years.

Hi

Personally pro European rule. But the EU needs a massive shake down before it is trustworthy for that (starting with removing most of the power from the European commisions).

All the best

no they need to be lined up against the wall....

Any company that fails an audit 3 times in a row gets investigated it gets a couple more chances then the directors get struck off and not allowed to be directors for about 4 years IIRC.

the EU has never had its accounts signed off by auditors

Mate, if it gave control of the country to people with proper integrity and a decent moral compass and returned some dignity to the rest of us, I'd make the sacrifice.

Biking or scum-ridden country? Pick one.
