I am thinking of investing in a cheap paddock stand, so i can do some maintainence and cleaning easier. Such at this one for £17

https://i23.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/9e/00/04e9_1.JPG

I am just wondering how hard they are to use. Does the bike have to be on the centre stand, then you slide the paddock stand under the swing arms?

I can't even get my Bandit onto the centre stand. I am too weak and the bike is too heavy. Me and my mate couldn't even do it together. Are you able to attach the paddock stand when the bike is on its side stand?

Err, Here's a good video to show how it's done A bit fiddly, but yeah, your bike has to be level, then heave! and it should be up. I used to use a paving slab or something to that effect.

I now do it like this If you dont want to overbalance it, then might i suggest grabbing the pillion pegs or pillion grab handles and pushing down with your foot, OR rest the rear of the bike on ur thigh, angled towards you, and using your other leg, stamp on the stand to lever it up - should be easier on bigger bikes - used this method on my ZX6R, but used the first method on my ZXR250 because it was shorter.

I put mine on its side-stand (no centre) then position the rubber hand under the swing arm. I then lift my bike off the side stand so its just on the two wheels, learn over and get the right side (looking at the front from the back of the bike) in place then the left. Once I'm happy there in place I put my foot on the top of the stand and push down. Bike goes up sorted.

I was worried about using it the first few times, my Dad showed me and I use to get my brother to hold the other side of the bike, but once I got the hand of it, I just did it myself.

If you get that stand. It will be well worth it getting some of these...

Paddock Stand Bobbins

And some of these...

Paddock stand Hooks

Makes putting the bike on the paddock stand 100x easier. And made it better for me on the NC29 as the lower rails on the swing arm arent level! So the "platform" style paddock stand hooks that come with it didn't work as the bike was at an angle.

The easiest way to load a bike on a stand is to have 2 people. One sat on the bike, and one person behind. Loading the paddock stand under the swing arm. Then pushing down on the paddock stand.

That one doesn't look too bad, I have seen some collapse under the weight of a big bike before now so make sure its decent quality.

They are a godsend for some jobs but a waste of money if you have a centre stand really unless you plan taking both front and rear wheels off. Its more technique than sheer strength to get the bike on the centre stand so if 2 of you can't do it your doing something wrong somewhere. Using a paddock stand will require 2 people if your not strong enough to hold they bike up yourself to start with. Then as you get the hand of doing it you can go solo.

I've got one of those stands I think and it's not that great as standard.

However, much better now I've welded up the joins where the bolts go through at the bottom.

Have a search on here and there's details of how to easily put bikes on to paddock stands if you're worried about it; though I'd just get used to using the centre stand if I was you (it may be a technique thing, partly, too).

i've got a paddock stand like that. My bike doesnt have a centre stand. There is a bit of a knack to lining it up right and getting it on the stand, but you should be ok.

I suspect that you not being able to get your bandit onto the centre stand is more about you not having the knack yet. Maybe take it to a bike shop and ask someone to show you how to do it.

I dont think you really need a paddock stand if you have a centre stand.

I've watched a few vids on youtube on how to get a bike onto its centre stand. They make it look so easy.

I just had a quick attempt at it this morning at work but failed. Only tried twice though so i'll try it properly later on.

It is easy with the right technique. You have to use your whole body weight, not try and lift the bike.

Put your whole body weight onto it then pull the bike up and backwards.

If you're light like me I find it easier to stand on centre stand bit so all of my weight is on it.

Yeah, i'm about 9.5-10 stone and skinny, so it seems pretty hard to do.

Is it best to hold onto the grab rail with right hand, or the bit on the side under the seat kinda area?

With left hand on handle bar and right hand on pillion grab rail make the centre stand touch the ground this will steady the bike, then stand on it, lift the bike with grab rail and lean towards the back of the bike.

That's how I got my B6 onto its centre stand without any stress. Alot less fiddly than a paddock stand.

I tend to hang on under the seat. I'm about 10 stone and if I can get a CBR600F steelie on a centre stand better than my 14 stone dad it must be about technique. Laughing

Properly stand on it and it'll go up.

Its fucking impossible to get it onto the centre stand.

I've just tried it about 10 times using all the advice in this thread.

I put ALL my body weight onto the stand with my right foot (making sure both of the feet of the stand are touching the ground), but still can't do it.

I push down all my body weight on right foot, left hand on handle bar, right hand on grab rail, try and lift and pull bike backwards at the same time, but i barely get close.

Its fucking annoying but ill give it another attempt.

I think thats what it is.

I'm gonna have to join a fucking gym and pump iron for 6 months to be able to get the thing on the fucking stand.

Instead of pulling up and back just pull up, the centre stand will make the bike go back, forget using the grab rail as its too high and too far back. Use the frame by the pillion peg or the peg hanger you will get much more leverage.
