Recently purchased a Honda NSR 125 - 2002. (2 stroke)

Now I know hardly anythin about bikes, when I first got this rode it twice ran great. On choke would sit at 3000 revs and off choke would sit just under 2000.

Now for some odd reason the bike wouldnt start or run properly I thought it was due to low petrol so filled a petrol can with unleaded and filled my bike up.

It now on choke sits at 2000 revs and as soon as I turn the choke off it struggles to sit at 1000 revs and the engine dies. I rode it yesterday and it seriously struggles to run at low speeds needs alot more revs and still not 100%. I have to keep reving whenever I stop otherwise engine dies.

It has had new spark plug and carb has been cleaned apparently has been cleaned so my garage said.

Also I put my finger in the exhaust and there seems to be oil and at high revs very darkish cloudy smoke.

Can anyone help or know what this could be?

Thanks Thumbs Up Very Happy

First, reset the idle screw. Do a search on the topic, been covered plenty of times. Yours may be off and is a straight forward check/reset.

Wouldnt worry about the oily residue in the zorst, however you shouldnt have clouds of smoke at high revs unless it is still cold.

If it is still cold - STOP REVVING HIGH until it is warm.

Search on decoking the zorst, though not a high priority.

Also, ensure your choke cable moves freely and is fully disengaging when you close it off - bogging down can be caused by choke still being on.
Thumbs Up

first of all set pilot screw (the most in front) at 2 1/2 turns out
choke on , no acceleration , start the bike (it's perfectly normal it's idling 3000 rpm)
the rpm will go down gently until it begins to stuff
at this moment , apply a bit of acceleration and take choke off
keep your acceleration (no more then 2500-3000) for 1 mn then release
if your engine die , do 1 turn in at idle screw and start again without choke but a bit of acceleration then release
if engine keep idling , set idle at 1500 rpm
remind that the full power cannot be reached before 7-8 mn of warming and it's not recommanded to go over 6500 rpm during it's not warm enough
