People quite reasonably get annoyed when others sign up seemingly purely to promote their own website, event, etc.

If you'd signed up with a 'Hi, new member here..(etc).., I hope it's ok if I mention this...', suggesting you just might want to become part of the community* rather than use it for advertising, you might have found a more positive welcome.

While it may have taken you 'ages to write up', we can see the effort certainly wasn't dedicated just to this forum and I'm sure the Ctrl+V and Ctrl+C didn't take that much effort Smile.

*Regardless of whether you do.

Copied and pasted, down to the lack of capitalisation in the same places Smile.

Regardless, it doesn't actually bother me particularly, thus I didn't rate it as spam. However I can quite understand why others might see it as this Smile.

If you have a look around this forum, you will see there is a 'calendar' section, where you can post just such events and not receive negative ratings for doing so.

You made the same post, letter for letter on two forums at least (I didn't try and look that hard Smile), which seemed contrary to your previous statement.

I am far from being hostile, as I just said, I don't see a problem with your post myself, just explaining how the situation could be seen.

I rated it spam because it was his first post and it's the second forum I've gone on and seen in exactly the same text therefore in my book it's spam.

It was also his first post on the other forum.

I don't think clearly bike related stuff that many people might be interested in is spam. This is a bike forum after all. It's not like he's flogging cheap Viagra.

yes it was my first post in many different forums but look at it this way, im trying to make as many people aware of the event as i can, i gain nothing from this just trying to help everyone - the event organisers by getting more people there and the public by actually letting them know the event is going on, can you imagine how long it would have taken for me to sign up, say hi, have a little chit chat, post a few threads and THEN post the thread on the event?? Look, im sorry a few of the people here have seen this as spam, its not, im just a guy who knows of a big event coming up and trying to get fellow bikers aware of it.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

If it means less of these threads clogging up the forum then I'd rather not.

I'm sure the people that are interested in going are more than capable of finding out for themselves./Shrugs

ok i can see the sort of moderators you have here, thats fine, i wont be returning, this is a motorbike forum mate, the people here have a passion for bikes, if there is a big event coming up and someone posts something about it you should be pleased someone has actually taken the time to make everyone aware of it.
if you arnt interested in biking events mate then maybe you are in the wrong place, im sure if you ask the rest of the blokes on here their opinions the majourity of people (who arnt weekend warriors) would say they would rather hear of events than not.
how sad someone in your position feels the way you do about this,

Given the option between every non-member who has an event organised telling us about it on here and not hearing about them – I suspect most would prefer not to hear about them.
There are at least tens of bike events on most weekends across the country, maybe hundreds. Imagine if someone from every event came and posted on this forum – it would make the forum unreadable.
I wonder how the forum on your site would react if a load of people started coming on purely to promote their own events in the wrong sections.

For this reason and others, there is a calendar system which you could have used on this forum.
If you’re not aware, there are also various public listings of biking events which anyone interested in one can look up.
Doing these also seem more sensible, as others get a much longer lasting view of the event you’re promoting, than a post which is ironically only not dropping to the bottom of the page because of the argument it’s caused.

While we’re at it, what exactly is your comment about ‘moderators’ in relation to; what ‘sort of’ moderators do you see we have here?
Were you hoping that the ratings given by users would be revoked? I’ve explained that it’s quite reasonable it could be seen as ‘blatant commercial advertising’, regardless of whether or not that was the intention.
No moderating action has been taken on this, so I don’t see any other issue, unless you’d prefer we ‘shut up’ those complaining.

If it had come from a regular user then we can presume there’s at least some forum related interest as a member of the forum is presumably attending.
Me, I’m interested in events where my riding of a bike is a significant factor; this doesn’t seem to be one, but that’s irrelevant in this case, as obviously some do consider it an interesting ‘biking’ event.

i have only recently started joining forums so dont really know the name of the game, i was just very disapointed the the reaction i got from this particular site, i have had nothing but thanks from all other sites i posted on that i have checked up on, my moderators comment was directed at those who have posted on here saying they couldnt care less about events that others have posted on here, this isnt just a uk event, its a now GLOBAL event and this is the first year the uk has taken part. look i didnt post it to get up anyones noses, i was just trying to help the lads out who are orginising it, like i said, there is a hell of a lot of effott being put in by the guy orginising and help here and there wouldnt go a miss

I could reply on other forums, but I'd be wasting my time. The karma system on here makes it easy to show my feelings without wasting bandwidth.

BTW, please don't call me a weekend warrior when I'm not really. ( I ride my bike during the week. Razz )

It's irrelevent in any case because weekend warrior or not it doesn't make my opinion any less valid than yours.

I'm not personally interested in walking around looking at other people's custom bikes or some saggy titted 40 y/o, but whatever floats your boat I suppose.

I'm more into my racing but there you are. Wink

I think G was trying to illustrate a point, wasn't meant to be taken literally. If it's such a big event surely they would be promoting in the motorcycling press anyway?
