Well, I cant help you, but I know that Ryan has done a track day at Croft on his (non restricted) RVF and he has a restricted licence. Dunno if he has a racing licence, we will have to wait for his answer.

Sorry for this pointless reply, it was actually no use at all Embarassed

well, as i was looking before after ur predicament (which i was wondering also) i scouted around and unless its a beginners course day(and sometimes not even the beginners) then it says 250cc licences and above. i think they mean 33bhp but its still the same. i have no idea how u get a racing licence. can u tell me?

you dont need any thype of licence to do a track day on some tracks you wouldnt need a racing licence at all and as far as restricted bikes go your fine to race on them

It's probably best to take a look at the website of the track that you intend to go on...you definately don't need a racing license, but I'm pretty sure that you need a road license, but I doubt that it'll make a difference if it's restricted or not.

And Ste - it's not about being legal for the road, but about insurance liability etc...sorta like Santa Pod.

I don't think it's a problem. When I passed my test the shop I did it at invited me on a track day. Said I could take my NSR, OR one of their 400s.....

Dunno, I think it is all down to insurance, and depends on the track, and who's on it.

As mentioned by stew i did one on my RVF, the company (trackday promotions) didn't ask me about licences/insurence or anything, but i did check when i phoned up, i think as long as ur bike is road worthy, u wear full leathers/gloves and a gold stamped helmet ur ok, on their website it mentions something about licences on 'octogon' race tracks which i think are some of the major ones (such as donnington) and that u have to meet noise (exhaust) restrictions, but it all seemed pretty laid back to me on the day, cos they didn't do any of the above but gave us all a warning on track rules such as flags, overtaking and no wheeling (i think his words were if u wheely on the track make sure it's a good stand up one down the length of the start/fin straight, cos u'll b going home after!! Laughing ). If ur worried about being on a slow bike (compared to the usual track nutters) i wudn't cos u get all sorts!! ppl were telling me that on the day before i went there were RS125's kicking ass, and there were bandits and RF900's on the day i went there.

I would seriously recommend a trackday to anyone!!! it's one of the best times ive had on a bike ever, i'll probly b at croft early april when there's another trackday there (weather permitting) and well worth £100

As Ryan siad, they allow road 125 2 strokes on so there no reason why a 33hp 4stroke wouldn't be allowed.

There may well be people taking it a lot slower than you anyway, so it's nothing to worry about.

It does depend on the track...Castle Coombe, for example, don't allow race cans, and have very strict noise restrictions, although they do allow the odd GP-spec smokers. Confused and AFAIK, they don't allow 125s of any sort...

It's because they are only allowed to have a certain number of 'loud' days a year, which are all taken up with proper bike and car racing. Something to do with how close the circuit is to the village and the boring gits living there complaining.
By the way, it is an awsome circuit for a track day, and they have one for bikes every other Wednesday from March to Oct. Definately worth a day out.

Can you tell I'm a local?

I would have thought the small and twisty circuits would be more likely to allow 125's etc as it suits these better Very Happy A young person on a 125 bike is probably less dangerous than a 60 yr old born-again on an R1 on tight tracks. Confused

Yep, just got mine.

You need to join a club (bemsee, NG etc) then fill in an apliction form from the acu. You'll need to have an eye sight test & sign a form to say you dont have any medical problems.

If you haven't done a race school you'll need to do a ACU aproved race school before they'll issue you a license. If you do have a Cat A road licence you'll be limited to -600cc production bikes & -250cc race bikes.

It shouldn't cost more that about £300 to get a licence. Its the racing that costs, £60-100+ per race, set of tyres every couple of races, plus the petrol for the van/car & race bike. Then any damage you do to the bike. Depending on the class you might need wets.

Im going to be racing with NG on a R6, I'm budgeting on spending £5000 excluding buying the bike, van etc.

Hope that helps. If you've got any more questions just ask.

It is. There are cheaper ways tho. Theres a race series called early stocks for old (80's only I think) twin shock, air cooled bikes. There are quite strict limits to the mods that can be done.

Neither does it make bread any cheaper - and that has the same amount of relavence to my post as the license does.
