Police attempt to trap motorists

It appears that North Wales police force is getting sneaky in its
war
on speeding.

It has been leaked by an insider that the force recently purchased
a
horse-box with the intention of converting it into a covert speed
camera.

The van is apparently intended for targeting motorbikes, but this
suggests it will be placed on roads popular with enthusiasts, where
it is sure to snare a few car drivers as well.

When asked to comment, a spokesman for the force refused to deny
the
rumours, saying: "We never comment on speculation about police
enforcement, that's all the comment we're making."

Perhaps it may prevent a few deaths on the roads but not suicides in the hills!

I expect they'll park it on roads where there are fixed warning signs that there are fixed speed cameras present. Just like they do with mobile speed cameras in a van.

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that now speed cameras themselves don't have to be clearly marked as the regulations governing this have now been relaxed? I think that's why Slippy Dicky Brunstrom and some others are talking again about putting hidden and unmarked speed cameras in lamp-posts and other roadside furniture.

I think they've now all but given up on claiming that cameras are there only as a deterrent to speeding, not to actually prosecute road users. I remember a senior Policeman recently saying in an interview with the press "Why should speed cameras not be hidden? We don't warn burglars that we are going to catch them if we can".

I'm sure (but could be wrong), that there was a new set of speed cameras put up on the A303 near me that had no warning signs put up at the same time. Consequently, loads of motorist's were sent speeding fines that were later reimbursed due to the camers not being 'signposted'.

Only if they want to keep the fines for themselves, I believe.

Apart from the cases where people that haven't been speeding have been done.

So, to be 100% sure, it'd best if you stayed in your house and employed a panel of 'witnesses' who can vouch that you haven't left it.

You should also deactivate your vehicle, for instance by melting the engine into a solid blob of metal. This way, when they do to try to prosecute, you have a reasonable defence.

The fact is that speed limits are very often not related to safety, but will severely restrict 'fun', which is the reason many ride bikes.

Can't wait to see the replys on this one.

The Times yesterday reported that the revenue from speed cameras last year was £100 million. Of course it's to prevent accidents. Rolling Eyes

If they start hiding cameras.. Bikers should have a national day, where we hide our numberplates, and go out for "camera runs" and not stop for police.

Fight fire with fire and all that

and then in 1 day the Uk Government will end up with either a whole lot of money/licenses/impounded bikes Sad

I think in a lot of situations cameras cause problems as nobody wants to do the speed limit and end up slamming on the breaks at the last minute and causing hazards for themselves.

Thumbs Up

Would work, but would people actually stand up and do it? And what sort of dirty measures would they resort to? Knocking us off? Stinging the tyres? 'Accidental' diesel spillage? Theres no way to tell what the slippery fools at the top would order, and then how this would be interpreted by a bike hating policeman. If they are going to do bull like this in the first place, surely people rebelling against it are just going to get bigger bull back?

Hmmm.

As much as this may sound naive or even dimwitted pyro,
I don't think tha authorities that be would have much they could do about it. If they were to get heavy handed, thier reputation (or lack of it) would be in shatters.

Police as it is very rarely use these sort of tactics, quite often when there is a high perceived risk to tha public, they will call tha chase off.
I can tell you from first hand experience tha police let bikers get away with a hell of allot, especially if they think you're gunna hightail it.

One thing I would be worried about if this happened though, is that tha police would realise tha most useful thing they can do to get arrests and stop us would be to lie in wait at tha petrol stations Shocked Then you would be fucked.
