Just wondering really - is a GSXR750 K4 suitable for the odd long distance ride?

I know any bike can tour in theory, but compared to say a ZX6 636 or a GSXR600 or even a 2006 ZX10R is the 750 a bit more roomy?

Anyone done any big trips on one?

More uncomfortable then the older K series but still way better than any modern 600 or GSXR750.

Got a k5 600 same shape.

Comfy as hell, have done many a slog.

600+ miles in a day with no problem.

Its exactly the same as the GSXR600.
Haven't rode a ZX10, but if thats anything like a B1h 636 then the gixer is more comfortable.

Thinking about it, its actually decently comfy for a full on sports bike, I'm 6'2 and only start to wince when riding for an hour or doing slow stuff/town work. Can get cramp in the left side every now and then though, although I'm yet to adjust the gear selector rod to see if this helps... think the problem is cause I have size 12/13 feet and have to contort my leg abit to change up.

Fairing is good at keeping the wind off, although the standard size screen is woeful above 130.

Go for it, its a cracking bike Thumbs Up

Cheers - its just a thought I've been having really. I bought the Blackbird with the intention of doing some long trips this year (ie Europe) but the need to buy a house has curtailed any extra holiday time, so my riding this year is likely to be restricted to Sunday days out and perhaps a few days in scotland.

The Blackbird is almost too capable for that sort of riding - I did a 250 mile round trip the other week and it was incredibly easy but not that exciting.

Theres a nice '05 750 local to me going for £4800 and I've never owned a Suzuki so thought I might at least go for a test ride to see if this hype about 750 engines being perfect for the road is right Very Happy

Did plenty of European mileage on mine without issue(over 3000 miles in 2006) - managed Montpellier to Hatfield, Herts in one go (minus fuel stops). Left Montpellier at 12.30pm got home at about 4am - around 800 miles.
Remember, it is primarily a sportsbike, so the pegs are relatively high and can get a bit crampy on motorways, wrists can get a bit achy in town. Stay on twisty roads and go 'sports touring'.

I find the two most limiting factors are a) tank range, and b) my bladder range.

Nice - I take it from that pic thats its a metallic tank? Thats one thing that put me off the ZX636 - plastic tanks arent very practical for tankbags!

Haha, I know - its an obsessive compulsive disorder I think. I love the pic above at Assen - the motogp style exhausts on that model look great

I'm just going up and down the bike ladder I think! In the past 18 months I've had:

CBR600F
ZX9R - This was the best of the lot - never should have sold it!
Triumph Tiger
Honda Blackbird

The only criticisms I have of the Blackbird are that its very heavy (250kg fuelled) and somehow you feel a bit removed from riding. Its almost too good.

I originally bought it thinking I'd be doing a lot of touring this year, which it would have been perfect for as its incredibly comfy and relaxed at high speed, but it looks like thats not going to happen due to work (started my own business) and trying to save up for a house, so most of my riding this year is going to be sunday blasts, which the Blackbird is really overkill for. So I fancy something light and responsive

That said I dont want to go to a 600 because I find them too much hard work, so interested to find out if the 750 engine is as good as they say on the road.

I'm also looking at a 2006 ZX10R though.....

Well, it turned out the 750 engine was as good as they say!

I was really really impressed - its the first GSXR I've ever ridden and I can see why they are so well liked.

The handling was superb - by far the best handling bike I've ridden - really quick to turn, loads of confidence in the front end and just so precise.

The engine sound was lovely, especially that air box rasp, and the perfect mix of grunt and reviness to be exciting at sub-sonic speeds but has the ability to cruise along and pull reasonably at low revs. Felt similar to the ZX9 actually, which isnt a surprise as they have about the same power but the GSXR is about 20KG lighter

Riding position is reasonable - its obviously nowhere near as comfy as the blackbird which felt like an armchair afterwards, but its certainly a lot more comfy that the Kwak 636 I took out a few months ago.

Far more importanly though its a really exciting bike to ride. I had an hours test ride and didnt want it to end - its a while since I've felt like that about a bike and at the end of the day thats what its all about.

So to cut a long story short I bought it and picked it up this morning. Heres a few pics from the for sale advert. It really is completely mint condition - 13k miles but serviced every 2000 miles, sometime even more frequently.

Is that a different tail unit colour scheme??

No idea to be honest! I have the standard seat too.

Whats the score with pipes? If I get a yoshi does it need remapping? A power commander? Wouldnt mind a bit more noise but dont want to mess with the fuelling or spend a fortune
