im guna be replacing the chain an sprockets on my 2001 zx6r, so im thinking of gettin a few more teeth on the rear, or one less on the front? wot real effect will this actually have on acceleration? and top speed? im just wondering if its actually worth doing, or will it just be buzzing on the motorways.....

go 1 down on the front an 1 up on the rear, that will increase acceleration but will lose a little top speed, not much in the grand scheme of things though

Hi

Have you got a dyno graph and the gearing for your bike? If so I will knock up a graph.

For an example, for a 2001 GSXR600:-

GSXR600 Thrust Graph

Red line is standard gearing, blue line is going down one on the front and up one on the back.

Seems that the GSXR600 is pretty high geared as the difference in top speed (roughly where the black doted line crosses the other lines) is nominal. Assuming slightly better aerodynamics (the line is drawn for the drag figure of a 600 Bandit, but even a 'busa is not massively better) then dropping the gearing like that will basically get you running out of revs but the difference in top speed will still only be tiny.

All the best

Keith
