If you buy a category C write off bike what do you need to do to get it back on the road again.

I know I would need to get it MOT'd but wondered if there was a special department of transport test to put it through as well.

Just needs an MOT (and Tax, Insurance, rectal exam. Laughing )

Seriously for a Cat C bike there's none of that VIC check stuff before it goes back on the road, just an MOT.

The catc can affect the resale though, if going for part exchange the garage would check out and probably reduce the price by 1/3. However i do not believe there is a need for you to say at sale time, however if asked the question you must say.

Apart from that, get the MOT as normal.

Another thing that may become an issue is getting it insured as theres some insurance companies that asked for an engineers report for Cat C bikes that have been put back on the road, some don't though.

I've not come across a company that asks for a report in advance of insuring a bike yet.

I have heard of a few companies turning round in the event of a claim and asking for a report. My opinion is that if it isn't in their T&Cs they can go to hell and I'll take my case to the Ombudsman.

*I run one bike that's Cat C and one that's Cat D. Neither cost me more than 50% of full market value to buy and put back on the road so, the 66-75% figure is fine with me.
