Well since I decided to put Fully synthetic oil in my bike last year. (BIG MISTAKE) the clutch has just got worse and worse. Anything above 10k and the clutch was just slipping and sliding.

So I decided to drain all the fresh SEMI synth oil out I recently put in.

Took the clutch cover off, And started to dis mantle the clutch.

Got it apart, And gave everything a good clean with some clutch cleaner I rebuilt it with Heavy duty springs and A new release bearing before putting some new semi synth oil in and starting the bike up...

I pulled the clutch in, And whacked it in first, And it jumped forwards before stalling...

So I adjusted the clutch cable RIGHT up so by pulling the lever back to the bar the engine can be kept running when the bike is in gear but the revs must be kept slightly on and the brakes have to be applied or the bike will creep forwards...

Does this sound like there is just no oil around the clutch yet and its running dry?

Or is there something not right with it. Im 100% sure its gone back together exactly how it came apart, Just clean.

Ben

Friction plates were fine. Nothing wrong with them at all.

The Steels in the middle of the clutch were a bit scorched (blue/gold) but the outer steels were fine. Solid Metal Silver.

It does dis-engage if you adjust the cable RIGHT up and pull the lever right back to the bar.
But its still ever so slightly gripping because if you let off the brake the bike creeps forwards.

Had the same problem on the 9R mate , it got progressivley worse over time - turned out to be the selector dogs on the gears were gone . Would have been a gearbox rebuild.

Don't know if it's the same problem but mine started just the way you describe yours

But my clutch was Fine this morning before I took it apart, cleaned it and put it back together.

It was actually slipping. It dis engaged fine. But slipped when at high RPM.

Now it wont even dis engage. And all ive done is clean all the friction plates with clutch cleaner.

Yeah , that's what mine was like - wouldn't disengage and the rear would spin in neutral at 1k - had to change idle to about 500 rpm .

It's probably not the same thing , just sounded like you had a similar problem - as for Fully Synth in a Honda Shocked . The one thing i had drummed into me with the VFR and the CBR was that they don't like it .

Hope it's sorted soon anyways

Yea, it was dis-engaging this morning Fine.

Just since I rebuilt it, its stopped working. Im Hoping its because theres no oil in the clutch and it needs to find its way around it while running.

Hmm.

Binge, I had the same problem after dismantling the clutch on my CBR600; it's just the plates sticking a bit - one tip that may help is to cable tie the clutch lever back to the bar overnight.

I'm sure mine freed up with a bit of use and was initially worse when the oil was cold.

Thumbs Up

Well im gonna pull it apart again tonight and slap some oil between all the clutch plate faces.
Its just time and effort draining all the oil out, Taking out the 20 odd engine cover bolts, Locking up the clutch so I can get the big nut off etc.

Pain in the arse I tell ya!

Ill let you all know how I get on.

Are you sure you'll lose the oil? on my VFR with it on the sidestand I didn't lose a drop with the cover off which makes the job far less annoying when you have fresh oil. You can wheel it onto blocks first for extra lean. If you cleaned all the oil off the plates It will probably be a good idea to soak them in it overnight

Did you check the metal plates for warpage and the fricition plates with a micrometer?

I had the same problem with my NC30 as it crept forward when in gear with the clutch disengaged, new plates and springs fixed it.

lol, Well I laid the bike on its side for safe measure not to loose any oil.

Ive rebuilt the clutch again, and its working now. So Maybe something wasn't fitted correctly. Ive a feeling I had the friction plates in the wrong order. (the first one is skinnier)

Anyway, its still slipping like a cunt. it works fine now, just slips still.

Time to flush the engine out I think, new clutch plates and friction plates. New semi Synth oil and new filter.

If it doesn't sort things out I shall not be impressed! Laughing

Is it missing gears at all or jumping out? My FZR used to slip under load and even after i changed the clutch it still did it then stopped after 6th gear would no longer select. I'd check over it some more.

Nah defo staying in gear. It does it in all 6 gears.
Its clearly clutch slip. It hits a certain RPM, then just revs really high, But smoothly. if you back off and re apply the throttle it will sometimes work, And sometimes slip.

Good idea though. Fraid its not it.
