Hey, i realize this could be a bit of a silly question but here goes..

You have a full license and are carrying a pillion passenger, are you legally required to ensure your passenger has a helmet?, or is it the passengers responsibility and nothing to do with the rider?

cheers!

Pillion Law

Without going through all the road traffic acts, here's a brief synopsis:-
You must hold a full licence for the machine you're riding, wear a safety helmet etc.
Your Bike must be adapted to carry a pillion (a rear seat and passenger footrests).
Your pillion must wear a safety helmet, sit astride the machine facing forward (side-saddle is illegal).

There's no legal age required for riding pillion but he/she must big enough to hold on, sat astride with feet on the foot pegs (so there is a size limit) and able to fully understand the detailed instruction you will surely give.

Is there a pillion alcohol limit? I took a bird home last night who could only just walk (it was on the way and less than 2 minutes at 20mph in a straight line, I was just concerned she might be sick in the lid Sick ) and it occured to me I might be breaking the law.

Think you can get done for a pissed pillion. Also. Someone told me bikes are designed so the pillion can sit facing forwards or backwards. Not sure how true that is though. T

When I did my DAS, my instructor said that the law doesn't state which way a pillion must face. i.e. Legally, they could face backwards. Obviously, facing forwards is the sensible option.
