As the title suggests, I am now looking for new pistons and seals and could do with some ideas on suppliers.

Cheers,

Stephen.........

you could try and get a set of 1200 calipers, but would need to get a set of stepped brackets made upo to make up for the different mounting hole pitch.....along with many other pricier options!!!

The message above doesn't really tie in, through no fault of the author, bu because I changed the post as no-one seemed to know of any way to swap calipers for newer ones without crafting brackets. So new parts seem to be the next step.

These are the front seals in a set.

Heres the rears, you need two.

If you really need the pistons a piston and set of seals is about£17-£18 for each front and the rears are £21.00 each.

Yep. They're not cheap at all. Saying that you would be looking at about twice as much for genuine.

Most of the time as long as no one stupid has had a go at the pistons they just need a good clean up. I tend to first wash them in soapy water with a nylon scrubber then clean any persistent bits with a small wire brush on a dremel type tool.

Same thing can be used to clean out the seal gaps as well. The better the seal gaps are cleaned the better the pistons will move.

ALWAYS wear safety googles when doing this.

Use Red Rubber grease, a light smear around the piston to lubricate them

When you reassemble the calipers DO NOT push the pistons all the way back in, leave them proud of the caliper by about 2mm. Then before you re-attach the lines bolt them to the fork legs and slowly pour brake fluid directly into them. Then re-attach the lines and bleed as normal. This will tend to stop any air bubbles being caught behind the pistons in the caliper.
