Ok, idiot alert. I left my keys in the bike at work today for about an hour and a half, leaving the lights and heated grips on = flat battery Embarassed

Now I was wondering if I am able to jump start it from a car? Do i connect the batteries in the usual way (car on or off?) and hold my ignition switch.

Or will this just bugger up my lovely new battery? Crying or Very sad

I will try and bump start if but if i can't manage that could this ^ be done?

Cheers

Hi

Jump started bikes from cars loads of times. Biggest problem is getting the jump leads safely onto the bike battery. Connect the positives first.

All the best

Keith

I'd say it is safer to do that.

The bike won't flatten the car battery in the way another car might, and I've heard lots of alternator problems can be caused by jump starting. If the engine is off then the alternator doesn't play any role so it should be safe.

I've jump started a bike from a van battery before (with the engine off).

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Bump starting is quicker and easier than faffing about with leads. Wink

After the snow my bike wouldn't start either.
I tried fruitlessly to bump-start it whilst running through slush, however it wasn't to be. Had to ring someone to come with some jump leads and a car, showed me how bad my battery was.

I've had trouble starting it for the last few weeks, should've done something about it sooner but hey-ho.

New one winging its way to me now from www.watchbattery.co.uk
