Had a relatively productive day today.
Fitted my alarm (even got the indicators to work!), adjusted the clutch, adjusted the idle speed, tightened and lubed up the chain and went for a ride.
AAARRRGGGHH!!!!!
Bike won't go over 110mph. Gets to 100 in 5th then levels out at 10krmp. Power just gets really flat. Will go little quicker in 6th but then the powers on/off/on/off. Really don't know what's up Sad
Got some pics though:

If it's a Japanese import aren't they all restricted to 112mph? Confused

Yeah there will be some sort of weird japanese restriction.
You will need to phone someone like Bat or BoxHill motorcycles and see if they tell you how it restricted. If not, take it back to Performance Motorcycles and tell em to derestrict it or you want your money back Twisted Evil

Hi

Yep, Japanese market bikes are often limited to 180kmh (112mph)

Not sure how the Gixer does it. Many bikes it is a sensor in the speedo, using a needle going past a light and sensor. Just bend the relevant needle and it works OK

All the best

Keith

It will be what Keith said, a sensor in the speedo.

Sounds like a CDI restriction.

Can't be. I've got an in-line speedo converter so the bike actually thinks it's going slower

So the you're actually reading in MPH now? in that case, it can't be a sensor in the speedo (your reply might've been to Scooby's suggestion, but I'm reading your post after Stew's post), so something like the CDI sounds like the most probably cause...

Shut it Zak. I needed one ASAP and could only get a purple one. It'll be replaced by carbon fibre or silver soon enough.
My reply was to scooby, not Stewy Very Happy
I'm gonna give the dealers a call today and see if they have a clue how it's done.

I had to to get a reg plate. not intentional.
Called a few places and apparently I have to buy something that plugs in somewhere to remove the restriction.
More money!
But I was cheered up today.
D&K are selling a bike very similar to mine for £3000 Very Happy

OK, think I've found something.
Apparently I can use an M-Max box or a Kiss Racing Delimiter to do the job. Very few people seem to have a clue though Very Happy
Any ideas where I can get one?

Hi

If it is a cdi restriction then check whether you can just get hold of another cdi unit from a UK model (check the wiring is the same first!)

Maybe it is similar to some of the newer Suzukis and uses a gear position sensor, and from revs and gear it is triggering the limited. If so I suspect it can be bypassed with either cutting a wire or sticking a resistor into the wiring

All the best

Keith

Yeah, I've been told I need to check the resistance in 2nd and then solder in a resistor.
Like I know how to do that!!
Everything's pointed to it being with the gears so far. Looking at about £60 for an M-Max box. I'll hopefully sort it next month

I guess an M-max box is something similar to this...
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=25623&item=2403064495

Unfortunatley the guy selling these items only seems able to supply de-restrictors for Honda bikes (RVF,VFR,CBR etc) and kawasaki ZXR400's.

Good luck on your hunt for speed, I want a fair race Razz
Btw, if you cant unleash the power of the Gixer M says she will race ya down the strip Twisted Evil
