Hi all.

I've just bought a Garmin Zumo 550.

Can anyone tell me if I can set the route preference and avoidance settings in the navigation menu to completely avoid motorways on a rideout? I'd like to know how I can set the unit to guide me home after a ride if I get lost so that it avoids all motorways and uses A roads (and B roads if necessary) . Or can't this be done?

I know I can prepare a route on my pc avoiding motorways on the Mapsource software and transfer this on the onto the Zumo but this is no good if I don't know where I'll end up on a ride.

Cheers for any advice. Thumbs Up

Thanks.

On my unit it has only Highways ( not major roads) that you can tick to avoid. And even though I tick this it still takes me onto motorway for at least part of the jurney.

mmm, try shortest distance, or plan your route on the pc then upload it to your satnav, and select it through the routes button. or select minor roads

Will get screenshots later but in mapsource settings there's a slider you can drag that goes from prefer minor to prefer major roads. Drag this down a notch and plan routes in mapsource until it stops routing you on the mway. This slides saves the preference onto the Zumo too so it will affect it's route calculations as well

Thanks for the advice. I've just read on the Zumoforums website that I may need to do an update to get the latest software from the Garmin website even though it is a newly purchased Zumo. I didn't realize this as I'm not very techie. This may sort out the problem. Embarassed Laughing

Have a look at this link:
