Was on my usual commute to work today. The weatherman had been wrong and the roads were pleasantly dry.

Stopped at a red traffic light and a motorcross bike pulled up behind me revving loudly and and turning up his nose at me after checking out my "disgraceful" CBR125. (I was checking him in my mirrors). He deliberatly burnt past me when the lights hit amber....only to have to stop at another red light just a few metres away (daymn City roads!)

I pulled up behind him and looked down to only see him wearing a pair of dark green fisherman WELLYS!! Shocked
Surely this isn't right!!

At the lights, I felt to run over his toes - just for being a stuck up snob! But he burnt it AGAIN....and my little 125 was just left behind Embarassed

Anyone else see other bikers wearing "weird" outfits??

I've seen alot of scrotes riding "peds" in tracksuits Smile

Does that count?

But no doubt, as summer approaches we'll see a few surfer dudes on bikes wearing theyr flowery shorts and flip flops

I like the look on peoples faces when I pull up next to them wearing me knackered old rigger boots with the toecap showing on me crappy old GPZ 500 (when it runs). The look from the leather clad shiney shiney "oh my god I am going to crash and die if any dirt gets on my leathers" brigade is priceless.

Its enough to make me wear riggers on my bike forever. Thumbs Up Mr. Green

There's a chap around my way who is frequently to be seen in the summer wearing shorts, t-shirt, trainers, no gloves and an open face lid. What i find amusing about him is that (as a nod to safety) over his t-shirt he wears a hi-viz waistcoat.
Wink
Equally, there's another local eccentric who rides a real tatty looking old BMW. He rides wearing an old pisspot style lid, shirt and slacks, stringback leather driving gloves, Dunlop Green Flash plimsols and his trousers tucked into his socks.
Must be something in the water round here......

legendary!

I'm assuming your avatar piccy is an indication to your uniform bike gear!?!

I once saw a bloke down Saaafend - wearing a fullface helmet, armoured textile jacket with reflectives......looked down and he was wearing summer flower print shorts with trainers IN THE FRIGGING WINTER SEASON!!! Shocked
I suppose...he felt that his upper body was more important to keep safe!

Ha, that welly guy was probably me. Where do you live? I'm in Medway.

My leather boots busted a while back, and I wore the wellies once, then discovered how incredibly rainproof they are. So, I'll be wearing wellies till I can afford new boots, probably next winter!

I ride around in steel toecapped boots, jeans, a combat jacket with several wooly jumpers and a red scarf underneath, and a pair of tatty old gloves. Not much protection but keeps me warm which is good enough.

And actually I bet wellys would make quite good bike boots, waterproof at least.

I wince when I see chavs riding around with no gear on though. Saw one on a ped yesterday wearing a pair of trackies, a t-shirt and NO GLOVES (it's this part that annoys me the most!) - he kept rubbing his hands together and shivering. I mean, even if you don't care about protection, surely being warm is still important?

I'll happily wear anything to hand on the bike. Went out to rescue a friend who had run out of petrol in 3/4s and hoody yesterday. Although it was a little chilly.

Theres a guy at college who wears a two piece leather suit on a 125 ped, and a guy with a shiny ninja who doesn't wear gear at all.

Wellies are surprisingly comfy and waterproof.

Why?

Why does it annoy you that somebody else keeping within the law does not want to wear gloves? I sometimes wear trackies on the bike as I like the feeling of the wind, normally wear jeans though but they aint gonna make that much difference in a spill to joggers.

I really do not understand people that get annoyed with others for not wearing gear on THEIR OWN bike and not protecting THEIR OWN skin.
Confused

Wink

But the high vis vest MAY make car drivers spot him and prevent a crash, protective leather gear wont.

Maybe he only wears it in the summer to try to minimise the risk of a crash when he is not wearing leathers?

But the dude was obviously freezing his tits off, and I don't understand why someone would go out on a bike wearing very little KNOWING that they are going to be freezing.

At the end of the day he can do what he likes, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Riding in trackies (by that I mean nylon trackies) is a silly idea though, as in a spill the nylon will melt and burn your skin.

As I said in my helmet thread, it's up to the individual what they do.

The nylon melting if it survives in one piece long enough to melt during a spill is the least of your worries.

Are cotton trackies better for a spill then, or is it just people who look like chav's?

I wear trackies around the house myself sometimes or on the (rare) occasions that I go to the gym. It doesn't mean you're a chav if you wear trackies.

But yes, I'd rather be wearing cotton trousers than nylon ones in a crash.

He must have been freezing!? Shocked And surely if it had been raining or he'd pissed himself all the water/liquid would have just run straight down into his wellies!! Wink

Because the last thing I wanna do is shovel a heap of burnt chav backside off the road that'd hold up the traffic when they could have just shifted themselves if they'd been wearing the right gear in the first place! Twisted Evil

I wear a (lined) leather RST jacket, Winter gloves (may change to summers soon), Hoodie, Jeans and Steelies when riding.

Thought about investing in some textile trousers but hate how you slide over the seat, So staying with jeans - Got a pair of kneepads coming to wear under the jeans (May put them on top for the occasional knee-down practise)

its been said before on this forum, but steel toe capped boots are not a good idea on a motorbike. They can break your toes as someone i used to know found out.

Having said that, i once rode a sportsbike to an interview in office shoes, a shirt, tie and suit. Probably looked a little unusual.
