Good in what way?

Yes they work, real easy to wire up, but in reality they are almost completely pointless on most bikes. Compromises security as well.

Aparantly that is you use the same frequency as the fob or something it sets the bike off, dunno if thats true but was interested in this.
If you did kit one up doesnt it only work if the ignition is on so you'd have to get rid of the ignition switch and wire it up so its on perminatly to get it workin as soon as you hit the starter button.

Very useful for certain people.

I would kill to be able to start my bike warming up whilst i'm still inside the building, that would be very convenient.

IMO the security argument is moot - who can show me a bike stolen by somebody intercepting or cloning a remote starter signal?
But the number of times people simply smash a lock barrel in with a screwdriver is very high.

Been looking at an RFID solution, basically just walk to bike and hit start button. Not so interested in something working off a fob button, if I were to bother than it would be from a desire to lose the ignition barrel totally.

It's proper pimp 'yo! But i didn't bypass my ignition which still meant that i had to put my keys into it and turn on the remote start. You still need to put choke on in the cold weather. Dodgy relays caused mine to cock up no end and drain down 2 batteries (YUASAS!). But fo sho, it does look pimp and made me have a party trick at uni. It comes as standard with the cyclone alarm from www.motorbikealarms.co.uk (ncook security from ebay) - 19.99 squids is how much it costs for the alarm now.

Who said anything about cloning? Due to the way they are wired it takes all of 10 seconds to start the bike without a key, screwdriver or fob.

Bear in mind I only have an XR125 and wouldn't attach this kind of thing - that'd be daft!

But I'm assuming to have this work correctly you'd need an auto choke or something?

Nah, it bypasses the switch completely so that the ignition can be in the off position. Kill switch and safety cut outs should still work though.

I agree with TS, the only decent use I've seen is on chops or streetfighters so you can totally get rid of the key switch.

Pretty much, but thats only for those who use it in cold weather the posers have no problem at their summer meets. Wink
I suppose you could use a spare relay with some sort of acuator arm to open a manual choke or design an auto choke with bimetallic strips but its all getting out of hand.

So Id still have to go up and pull the clutch in Confused

Was going to get one cos it would save the hassle of arguing with the key cos it sometimes refuses to turn in the ignition Crying or Very sad.

My friend had one of these on his old bike. It was pretty handy, and absolutely priceless to see the look on peoples faces when the bike randomly started up by itself but its Dependant on where you park it because if someone puts it in gear without you seeing, and you come to your bike later on and start it from 10m away its not going to be so funny when it starts driving itself away, tips over, ruins your paintwork and snaps off a lever Rolling Eyes

It also came with a ridiculous voice alarm on it that was pretty temperamental, always started going off if someone brushed by the bike.

On the up side though it would be pretty handy to start your bike up when its outside and your gearing up inside.

Unless it wired incorrectly it should not be possible to start in gear unless someone has already bodged the safety circuit. In reality all you are doing is attaching two remote relays, one to the starter button, the other to the ignition switch. Apart from the obvious it should be no different than you turning the key and pressing the starter.

About the worse you can do is leave the steering lock on.
