Hey, my bike wasnt starting the otherday, which was weird because there were no signs of impending failure, but it had me baffed, and i had things to do so had to leave bike where it was and jump in car. My friend tried it later on that day and it started, so i arranged to come by and ride it home, got there, tried it and it started fine, sounded normal, turned it off whilst waiting for friend to move the car blocking it in, and when I wheeled it out, parked it were it was when it didnt start for a couple of minutes, and went to jump on, no start. It turns over and everything, just wont start. Any way that was yesterday, went to get it today and it was fine, rode it around for a few minutes and it felt fine, brought it hpome fine. I get this feeling that the bike wouldnt start when it was parked in a leant over position, can this ever have an effect on a bike? Petrol flooding the carb or something?

Cheers

What bike?
If its carb, and your throttles not jammed open it shouldnt be flooding the carb.

Maybe trying to use carb to start it?

Its the needle valve in the float bowl that controls the flow of fuel to the carb, not the throttle position.

No mate you've got your needles confused.

The main needle is the one that controls the amount of fuel that is mixed with air in relation to throttle position when the bike is running.

In the float bowl you have floats. These attach to a needle valve that lets fuel in from the tank. When the bowl fills the floats move and close the valve. A bit like your cistern filling with water when the toilet is flushed.

If the valve fails then the fuel will continue to fill the carb, rising up through the main jet and into the cylinder and air box.

Normally kills the starter if the bike is in gear. It should still let you start the bike irrespective of if its working or not.

Maybe, as Tutton said, it has something to do with the adjusted throttle cable? Guess it doesn't really matter now, how bad is it?

My GSXR400 did similar and I thought it may be the sidestand switch. It ended up being damp getting into the ECU.

I took it off dried it out, put it in a plastic bag and it was fine from then on.
