So yesterday afternoon I looked out of the window and contrary to the weather preditions of rain it looked like a rather splendid dry sunny afternoon. So I pulled on the leathers, zipped up the boots and rolled the bike out of the garage and set off for a jaunt.

I rode out of Market Weighton and down to Holme On Spalding Moor and then turned onto the A163 towards Foggathorpe, a road that I use quite a bit and is a really nice ride. Just before Foggathorpe there is an S bend in the road with a layby on the left. I slowed down and turn gracefully around the first bend and as I started to straighten up the front end hit some gravel by the entrance to the layby and the whole bike started to slide left. I manged to stop it from going down but then hit the grass verge in the middle of the layby, mounted it and then tried to get control of the bike to bring it back down. For about half a second I thought 'I can get out of this! If I can just bring it back down onto the road I'll be fine.' Half a second later the front wheel hit a rut in the grass which looked like it had been caused by a tractor tyre and it flipped me off! I landed on my right hip and slid across the road to the other side. My bike landed on its right hand side and slid down the middle of the road. There were a couple of cars coming the other way and they stopped and very kindly helped me lift the bike up and roll it to the side of the road. A woman who was working at a holiday park opposite came out with a first aid kit and patched up my little finger on the left hand which had come through the glove. I'd taken a couple of layers of skin off the tip!

The bike has sustained damage to the right hand side, broken indicator, cracked fairing and broken foot peg / rear brake bracket. It could have been worse and I'm fully comp so the insurance company said that someone will contact me on Monday to arrange to have the bike repaired. My Heine Gerrike leather trousers have hardly a scratch on them but the textile jacket is ripped on the right hand side. Still, it did a great job of protecting me! All I've got is some skin off the end of my pinky and a sprained left wrist.

The people who stopped and helped me were great and they couldn't do enough so thankyou! Now I just have to get the bike fixed and get back on as soon as possible.

As I was inspecting the damage to the bike one of the chaps that was helping me move it said that it really doesn't matter about the bike .. that can be fixed. At least I'm okay. I'm still alive and will ride another day Smile. Of course, now my Dad can say "I told you so". It was only last week that we were having a discussion about motorbikes and the risks and how vunerable we are etc ...

Bugger Confused

Chris.

Cool, I want a plastic welding kit for free then! I doubt Chris picked upthe bit of fairing anyway....and it would look shit anyway. Budget a new fairing in my opinion unless you're damn good at spraying.

2nd hand nose cone will be over £100.

I'll need new fairing so I'll let the insurance company handle it. That's what I'm paying them for! Got my moneys worth now Very Happy . I only paid £240 fully comp so it's a bargain really. Still, got the excess to pay which is £350!

I don't think there is much more than £350 worth of damage there, if you get s/h bits that is.

i'd jus pay for the damage myself rather than get insurance companies involved, they are slow and incredibly anoying. take it to a garage and prolly get stuff fixed on the day for less than 350 or do it yourself
