prolly should had done something about this a lot earlier but was told by the dealer it was normal but now its kinda worrying. not naming insurance company or dealer until i get clarification.

When thinking about getting an rvf in october i was ringing around all the insurance companies and HR insurance got me the cheapest quote at around £600 which i thought was pretty gd for a 20 year old with a week's experiance.

When i actually went to buy the bike the salesman asked how much i was getting quoted and when i told him how much and he gave me a card and scribbled down some details and said give them a phone and ask for this guy.

went home and phoned the number and asked for the guy and told him that the salesman told me to get a quote with him.

so gave him all my details and then double checks everything which came up to around £600 or £700 quotes and he tells me to wait for a moment while he goes and tries to get the insurance cheaper than £500, after a few minutes he comes back and tells me that i can get insured tpft for £450 ish which was great and then asks when i want the cover to start and if i would like a paper copy of the insurance documents.

Ride the bike home, insurance documents come through and i go get the bike taxed and come home and give the documents a good read, everything gd but one or two details were not taken or altered, one detail was the damage done to a tp in a crash i had earlier that year, the total damage done was correct at £1300 but it lists it as damage done to own vehicle instead of £800 for me and £500 for the tp cars, not really a big deal tbh. value of the bike was lowered a bit but he asked me if it was ok to lower it by around £100 so it could fit into a lower bracket or some other insurance jargon. however one detail still makes me worried, date that i passed my motorcycle test, i passed in 2007 and got the A2 liscence however the guy has changed the year to 2005 instead, Now i thought he may have used my car test date but i passed that at a different time of year.

I was around at the dealership that day as i wanted to get new gloves and asked the salesman about this and he said that the guy changed the details to get me a better quote and that its normal, seing as this was the first thing i had insured myself i just thought cool!.

now with better weather now im actually using the bike a lot more and im a bit worried that the insurance company will try and get out of any claims that i may make in the future because they changed a few details to get me a cheaper quote but im also worried that if i phone up and ask them about why it was changed that they may get a bit pissed off that i never mentioned anything in 6 months.

i'l probobly be goin to dealers on friday to confirm everything.

to make things a bit more confusing when i phoned the insurance people to check how much the insurance will change when i move house they couldnt find me on their database and they told me to try (iirc) the broker, they had my details and said that it would just be an admin fee of £30, question is that do they automatically assume its in a concrete garage? i'l be double checking on that tommorrow but at the moment im more worried about the dating of my pass date.

has anyone had anything like this happen?, am i insured? could i get into trouble? what should i do?

official line is something like "its your responsibility to check all your documents and ensure that they are correct"

when you moved did they send you a new set? if so blag that its only since then the details have magically become wrong, worth a shot anyway.

ive heard of this practice more and more with insurance companies. They will do pretty much anything to beat the figure you give them including 'forgetting' claims and basically doing anything they can to make a low quote. They then say that they can beat your quote and you pay your money, great! But then the docs come through, you see they are wrong and call up to get the right details on there only to be stung for another 2-500 as 'you' didnt declare accident/points etc.

I suspect this is whats happening with yours....

oh dear, sounds like your broker is Bennetts to me and I have the same shit everytime I get a policy with them.

But I cant complain as they are the only people that will insure me at the moment so I have to put up with it for the time being until I can get my NCB up and 18 points should off my license next year. Laughing

hmm I wonder why I struggle for insurance Laughing

Id be worried about your pass date too. Correct me if im wrong cos im only a noob but the a2 license is restricted to 33bhp for 2 years so if he changed your pass date by 2 years that would mean you are not restricted anymore? Sounds like a perfect excuse for the insurance to wriggle out of a claim to me Exclamation
Whats even more worrying is the last post about Bennets! Thats who im insured with. A honda cb1 400 tpft for £90 odd. I just thought great nice cheap insurance but now im gonna go re-read all my docs. Confused

its not with bennets, i'd never go with them as iv'e heard too many scary stories with them. I'l ask them to send through the docs and then claim that they got the details wrong.

or.... wait until october when i have to renew my insurance, will ahve 1 years ncb, 1 years experiance and be 21 which should help quite a bit.

the bike is restricted so it shouldnt really make a difference, insurance says i passed 2 years ago but my liscence doesnt.
